Trump Family Wedding Dresses, Ranked From Worst To Best
There have been a lot of weddings in the Trump family, and while each nuptial ceremony has been lavish, not all of the wedding dresses have hit the mark. From Melania Trump's extravagant wedding — with a gown so heavy that Melania was encouraged to eat more that day to have the energy to wear the dress — to Tiffany Trump's more modern bridal look, each Trump bride has made her mark. And since the Trump clan loves getting married (some individuals more than once), there are a lot of gowns to choose from.
The truth of the matter is that the Trumps don't always get it right, even with their seemingly unlimited budgets and connections. Just look at their behavior as wedding guests. The Trump ladies have worn several inappropriate wedding guest dresses, including opting for white tones when that's a big no-no for guests, or outshining the bride with an overly-sensational gown. As a prime example, Vanessa Trump once wore white to a wedding, which is just lame. Melania did much the same thing at Tiffany's wedding, wearing a cream gown when literally every other color option was available. With so many flubs amongst the Trumps as guests, it's no surprise that some of their gowns were misses, too. But in other cases, the Trump brides nailed it and wore absolutely perfect wedding dresses. So from worst to best, here are the Trump women's wedding gowns ranked.
Marla Maples' wedding dress lacked lustre
Marla Maples and Donald Trump got married in 1993 at the Plaza Hotel in New York City with a whopping 1,100 guests. Maples wore a simple Carolina Herrera dress and finished off the look with a fountain-like veil placed high on her head. Considering the outsized wedding itself, Maples' dress was surprisingly simple and understated, lacking the grandeur of the setting and the scale of the event. Their daughter, Tiffany Trump, was born two months earlier and, according to Vanity Fair, Maples was so eager to get married that she brought a wedding dress with her when she and Trump traveled. While it's unlikely that it was this exact dress, Maples might have been in a hurry to tie the knot.
Melania Trump's wedding dress was overly outrageous
On the opposite side of the spectrum is Melania Trump's wedding dress. For her January 2005 wedding to Donald Trump, Melania opted for a Dior haute couture gown designed by John Galliano. The gown was over-the-top in every way.
Melania's gown took 550 hours to make, required over 300 feet of fabric, and cost around $100,000. The gown weighed about 60 pounds, and it was so voluminous that Melania had to sit on a bench rather than a chair for parts of her wedding ceremony to accommodate it. The dress came off as too impractical and excessive.
Vanessa Trump's wedding dress was good, but didn't strike a chord
While they're divorced now, Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump married on November 12, 2005, at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, with 350 guests. Vanessa wore a sleeveless gown made by Reem Acra, but Vanessa herself had a hand in designing it, giving the dress a personalized touch.
The dress featured beaded detailing along the bust and had a long, dramatic train. While Vanessa looked very pretty in her wedding dress, the dress itself didn't stand out amongst the Trump women's wedding dresses. It wasn't too ostentatious, to be sure, but it also wasn't particularly memorable.
Lara Trump's wedding gown was perfectly acceptable
When Lara and Eric Trump tied the knot in November 2014 at the the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Lara chose a white strapless gown by Vera Wang. "It was the first dress that I tried on and actually felt like a bride," Lara told People at the time.
The dress was very pretty and a Vera Wang gown just doesn't miss. But while it was a perfectly nice dress, it didn't have the dazzle that some of the gowns worn by other Trump women had. Yet all the same, Lara looked radiant and feminine on her big day.
Tiffany Trump's wedding dress was really lovely
When Tiffany Trump married Michael Boulos in November 2022, she wore a beaded gown by Elie Saab that featured long sleeves, a ballet neckline and a dramatic train. The dress had sparkle and glamour, fitting for such a large wedding.
The two married at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate; while this gave a touching nod to her own family, Tiffany's dress was a touching tribute to her husband's history. The Boulos family is Lebanese, and since Elie Saab is a Lebanese fashion designer, the dramatic wedding gown was also thoughtful. The dress was a win for Tiffany because it managed to be both glamorous as well as appropriate for the monumental event.
Ivanka Trump wins for the best wedding dress
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner married in October 2009 at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey with 500 guests. Ivanka chose a Vera Wang wedding gown that featured a combination of Chantilly and Lyon lace overlay and sheer detailing along her neckline and sleeves. She opted for a dramatic veil and wore jewelry from her own line, Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry. The reason that Ivanka's wedding dress is the best of all of the Trump women is because it managed to be both dramatic and feminine, while also offering movability and functionality.
Methodology
It can be difficult to rank wedding dresses; each gown is a reflection of the bride's personal taste and her dream aesthetic around her big day. This, of course, is subjective and every bride chooses her gown through a careful measurement of individual style and fashion objectives for her wedding. Nonetheless, there were several careful factors that we considered in ranking the Trump women's wedding dresses from worst to best.
A wedding dress needs to elevate the occasion and match the gravity of the day. Since Marla Maples' dress didn't manage to do this, we gave it the lowest ranking. A wedding dress also needs to be somewhat movable so that the bride can dance, greet guests, and do all of the physically demanding things involved during a wedding festivity. For this reason, Melania Trump's wedding dress scored low. That dress was wearing Melania, and not the other way around. Conversely, the other gowns choices made by the brides — from Lara Trump, Tiffany Trump, to Ivanka Trump — all looked regal and romantic while still letting the bride shine. These gowns suited the bride's individual style and flattered her instead of overwhelming her. Both Lara and Tiffany looked radiant in their gowns, but because Ivanka's gown was the most visually interesting and unique of these final three choices, she scored the highest.
