Savannah Guthrie Sent A Strong Message With Her Outfit In Return To The Today Show
Savannah Guthrie was back co-anchoring "Today" on April 6 for the first time following the early February disappearance of her mom, Nancy Guthrie, and her bold outfit carried a strong message. Savannah wore a bright yellow, short-sleeve, lace dress while sitting alongside her co-anchor Craig Melvin, who sported a dark suit with a yellow tie, pocket square, and ribbon pin. Savannah also wore a coat in spring/summer 2025's most on-trend color, butter yellow, when she appeared outside the studio, where some fans held signs and wore shirts and ribbons in the sunny hue. The abundance of the color appeared to be a nod to the search for Nancy, which, at the time of writing, is ongoing.
During the February 18 instalment of the NBC morning show, several of Savannah's co-stars began wearing the shade on air to support their friend and co-worker. Hoda Kotb explained on "Today" that well-wishers had placed yellow flowers outside Nancy's Arizona home, while the studio was also full of yellow flowers. "We're all wearing ribbons as we send our love to Savannah and her family," she said.
Savannah's co-stars were also wearing their pins when she made her emotional return to the show and the studio was again decorated with yellow flowers. Yellow has long been synonymous with missing people. Interpol issues global police alerts for missing people referred to as Yellow Notices and yellow ribbons have been used as a show of support in missing person and hostage cases around the world since the '70s.
Yellow was also the color of Savannah Guthrie's baby shower
Bittersweetly, yellow appeared to be close to Savannah Guthrie's heart long before Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. In 2014, when Savannah was expecting her daughter Vale, yellow was the predominant color for her baby shower. The event, which Nancy attended, featured yellow and gray bunting as well as yellow signs, books, flowers, and even rubber ducks. Attendees, including Gayle King and Kathie Lee Gifford, also dressed up in bright yellow feather boas. Sadly, the color now has a much deeper meaning for Savannah, who's had a head-turning transformation.
Savannah's return to "Today" (and her lavish NYC lifestyle) wasn't the first time she acknowledged the show of solidarity via the shade following her family tragedy. She was dressed in a yellow shirt and cardigan in a February Instagram video while pleading for information about her missing mom. Savannah also shared an Instagram photo of multiple bunches of yellow flowers around Nancy's home in early March. "We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country," she wrote alongside a yellow heart emoji. "[P]lease don't stop praying and hoping with us. Bring her home," she added.
