9 Celeb Wedding Dresses Ranked By Their Exorbitant Price Tags

According to a study by The Knot, brides in the U.S. spend an average of $2,100 on wedding dresses, and experts note that wedding dresses are notoriously expensive due to a few factors. Prices vary depending on the fabric used to create the gown, with materials priced based on their mobility and how well they photograph. Not only are the hours of labor taken into account, but custom additions and embellishments also make up a significant portion of the price tag. Ukrainian dress designer Yuliia Lobachova told The Knot that brides often add detachable elements to their dresses, which allow them to 'transform their look from ceremony to reception,' she added. The overall cost of a wedding dress can also increase depending on the brand's reputation.

Amid the current cost-of-living crisis, pushing millions into homelessness and food insecurity, it may seem excessive to spend so much on a gown for one day. But that is how the other half lives. Spending more than $2,000 on a wedding dress would be considered a bargain for these celebrities, with some of the most extravagant celebrity wedding dresses of all time ranging from $197,185 to a whopping $4.6 million. To put things into perspective, Kim Kardashian's wedding dress, worn to her well-documented wedding to Kanye West, cost $500,000 — almost $685,000 in 2026. Considering her hefty receipt ranks 3rd on this list of exorbitant price tags, it's clear that some celebrities are willing to spend far more on their big day.

Serena Williams: $4.6 million

Professional tennis player Serena Williams wore one of the world's most expensive wedding dresses when she married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017. When the pair wed in New Orleans, Williams stepped out in a strapless dress designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, featuring a glittering cape.

Williams had clearly dressed to impress the famous faces spotted among the crowd, including Kim Kardashian. The athlete later made headlines when it was revealed that she had paid $3.5 million for the ball gown — equal to a sum of around $4.6 million in 2026.

Priyanka Chopra: $2.6 Million

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas blended their Indian and American heritages by hosting their wedding at the Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace in India. In 2018, the Indian actor walked down the aisle wearing custom Jimmy Choo heels and a personalized Ralph Lauren gown worth $2 million — equivalent to almost $2.6 million in 2026.

"They created exactly what I envisioned for myself on my wedding day," Chopra told People. The embroidered gown took designers nearly 2,000 hours to create and featured more than two million pearls and a 75-foot-long tulle veil. In the evening, the blushing bride changed into a traditional red lehenga designed by Sabyasachi.

Kim Kardashian: $685,000

No idea where to start with wedding dress shopping? The same can't be said for Kim Kardashian. She had already been married twice before she walked the aisle to marry Kanye West in 2014, including one highly publicized marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries that lasted 72 days.

The reality star invested heavily in her wedding to the rapper, spending a huge $500,000 on her lace wedding gown — almost $685,000 in 2026. The Givenchy number featured transparent paneling that contoured her hourglass figure. The pair married in Florence, Italy, and exchanged their vows in front of a wall embellished with thousands of flowers.

Salma Hayek: $655,000

Mexican American actor Salma Hayek spent an estimated $434,000 on her Balenciaga wedding gown in 2009 — equal to around $655,000 in 2026. While she has said little about her Italian wedding, after marrying billionaire businessman François-Henri Pinault, what we do know is that the actor donned two looks on her big day.

In a rare post on Instagram, Hayek celebrated her 15th wedding anniversary by sharing a carousel of images showcasing both looks. For her vows, she wore a blush dress that featured a beaded V-neck corset. In the evening, she swapped the pink number for a strapless, corset-style dress that featured a layered skirt.

Amal Clooney: $520,000

Amal Clooney is a fashion icon, and her Oscar de la Renta wedding dress didn't disappoint. When designing the dress, de la Renta told Vogue, "Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her."

The human rights lawyer married George Clooney in 2014, wearing an off-the-shoulder lace ensemble that included crystal embellishments. The gown should be among the stunning celebrity wedding dresses that were outside-the-box, as it boasted Lebanese pearls, a nod to her Lebanese heritage. The dress was estimated at $380,000, about $520,000 in 2026.

Princess Diana: $410,000

From wedding dresses to revenge dresses, the People's Princess had everyone talking about her wardrobe. More than 25 years after her death, Princess Diana is still making headlines for her extravagant wedding gown. The $115,000 dress, equivalent to almost $410,000 in 2026, was designed by British fashion design duo David and Elizabeth Emanuel. In 1981, Princess Di walked the aisle at St. Paul's Cathedral wearing Carrickmacross lace, passed down by the late Queen Mary. The dress, which was particularly iconic for its ruffles, balloon sleeves, and fitted corset, was even put on display at a museum at Kensington Palace in 2021.

Sofia Richie: $400,000

Model and designer Sofia Richie made headlines when she married music executive and 10K Projects founder Elliot Grainge in the South of France in April 2023. The then-24-year-old stepped out wearing a beaded Chanel number that featured a halter neck and body-hugging silhouette.

While speaking to Vogue at her final fitting, Richie said she felt like a 'princess.' The bride-to-be said she had opted for a more 'simple' design compared to the voluminous pink gown that she'd imagined when she was younger. However, given the dress cost an estimated $380,000 — over $400,000 in 2026 — Richie told Vogue, "I'm scared to move because I don't want to ruin one bead."

Meghan Markle: $342,000

Meghan Markle arrived at her royal wedding in 2018 wearing Givenchy, designed by Clare Waight Keller. It was no surprise that not long after the pair exchanged their vows, the media couldn't wait to compare the designs worn by Princess Kate and Markle on the biggest days of their lives. Despite spending an estimated $265,000, equal to over $342,000 in 2026, on the open neck and timeless design, Markle's ceremony at Windsor Castle was not the couple's legal wedding. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry said the couple had actually married in their garden three days before.

Victoria Beckham: $195,000

Victoria Beckham wore a sleeveless Vera Wang ensemble, which boasted a 20-foot train, when she married footballer David Beckham in 1999. The Beckhams paid an estimated $100,000 for the shiny gown, equal to nearly $195,000 in 2026. The pair married in a castle in Ireland, very much on brand for "Posh Spice."

Despite their high-profile careers, loved by many for their success, what made their nuptials so memorable is that the duo changed out of their formal wear for coordinated purple outfits in the evening. In 2024, to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, the pair donned the plum colored costumes for a photoshoot posted on Victoria's Instagram.
