9 Times Savannah Guthrie Proved Heels Make The Outfit

For over a decade, Savannah Guthrie has been an essential part of the morning for millions of Americans. Having been the co-anchor of "Today" since 2012, Guthrie has been a staple in many people's lives, and her girl-next-door charm has made her a lovable television personality. As one of the "Today" show stars who's stunning without makeup, Guthrie has also proven she knows how to put a look together.
But where Guthrie really excels is with her shoe choices. No matter the occasion, Guthrie manages to prove time and time again that it's the heel that really makes the outfit, pulling it all together perfectly. While viewers of "Today" are used to seeing Guthrie rock some fantastic outfits and equally fantastic heels, it wasn't until the morning show fired Matt Lauer in November 2017 for his inappropriate behavior at work that Guthrie was really allowed to have fun with her footwear. Why? Because she's 5-foot-10 with bare feet, which meant she towered over Lauer once she stepped into some heels. These days, she seems to be making up for lost time, because her shoe game has been flawless.
If you've ever put on an outfit and found yourself second-guessing it, turn to your heel collection. As Guthrie has taught us, any look can be epically elevated with the right heel. While this shoe style may have fallen out of fashion for the comfort of a flat, they're on the rise again – and even Gen Z wants in on this incredible accessory that completes every outfit.
Making embellished sandals the center of attention
In April 2017, Savannah Guthrie attended The Hollywood Reporter's 35 Most Powerful People In Media event in New York City, wearing this red A-line dress by Alexander McQueen. Because the design of the dress is simple yet sophisticated, it gave Guthrie the opportunity to have fun with her shoe choice — which she did. Although we're not sure who the designer of the heels is — and they don't look very Alexander McQueen-esque — the floral embellishments bring a playfulness to the ensemble. It immediately becomes a look that's great for a night out on the town or brunch with friends.
Spicing things up with a heeled ankle boot in patent leather
When Savannah Guthrie joined Andy Cohen for a "Today" Show Radio Town Hall on SiriusXM in February 2025, along with her co-anchor Craig Melvin, there was only one word for her patent leather, heeled ankle boots: fierce. Wearing a black top and a sheer skirt, the boots completed the outfit in a casual yet chic way. Had Guthrie worn traditional black heels, she would have looked too dressed up, while flats would have given her ensemble a frumpy vibe. But the heeled boots hit the nail on the head perfectly.
Showing off how to rock a black platform in Paris
In August 2024, Savannah Guthrie, along with Hoda Kotb and the rest of the "Today" anchors, headed to Paris to attend "A Celebration of Olympic Basketball." For the event, Guthrie wore this yellow and green, floral-printed sheath dress and paired it with black platform sandals. What makes this outfit so great is that the dress has black straps that perfectly complement the heels, pulling the whole 'fit together. Had the dress not had those black straps, another shoe might have been a better choice. However, that wasn't case, and Guthrie nailed it once again.
Elevating the LBD with a blue heel
When it comes to proving the iconic versatility of the LBD, the easiest way to do that is by having fun with the shoes you wear. While some might have looked at this black, strapless, ankle-length dress and thought that only black heels would do, Savannah Guthrie saw something else: an opportunity for blue, printed platforms. Although there were plenty of celebrities at the 2024 White House Correspondents' Dinner in D.C., Guthrie was a standout because she understood the assignment and had fun with it. Also, the bow in her hair is an extra darling touch.
Pairing a pantsuit with the perfect heeled loafer
If you thought Kaitlan Collins was the queen of the pantsuit, this photo proves she has some stiff competition in Savannah Guthrie. When Guthrie moderated a conversation between Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Utah Governor Spencer Cox in December 2025, she did so in this gorgeous magenta pantsuit that she paired with heeled, patent leather loafers. While the pantsuit on its own is fabulous, choosing to complete the outfit with those shiny loafers amplified the entire look, so much so that this might be one of Guthrie's best fashion moments yet.
Proving a barely-there heel can do wonders
When Savannah Guthrie attended the Cannes Lions festival in June 2025, she proved two things. For starters, the on-trend color of spring and summer 2025, butter yellow, looks stunning on Guthrie. Secondly, barely-there or clear heels not only lengthen the legs, but can really add so much to an outfit — despite being basically non-existent. Because the yellow skirt is embellished with sequins, keeping the shoes simple was key to making this ensemble work. It's also a perfect example of how less can be more if done correctly and paired with the right pieces.
Giving a monochromatic look some glamour via platforms
In February 2024, Savannah Guthrie and her husband, Michael Feldman, attended her "Mostly What God Does" book launch. Guthrie stunned in a winning, monochromatic look; and because she was entirely in white, Guthrie chose to bring the glamour to the equation with her silver chrome platforms that completed the outfit in a fun, professional way. Guthrie's book is about her interfaith marriage with Feldman, and she told the LA Times that she wants her kids to embrace both faiths; but when they're older, they can choose what's best for them — even if it's no faith at all.
Her rainbow heels even outshined Kim Kardashian
To promote a Skims pop-up shop in New York in 2023, Kim Kardashian appeared on "Today." While she and Savannah Guthrie were both in head-to-toe black, it was Guthrie's heels that really outshined the Pepto-pink ones that Kardashian chose to wear. As we've seen before, like when Guthrie wore her LBD to the 2024 White House Correspondents' Dinner, she knows that a one-color outfit gives you so much room to experiment with shoe designs and colors. While the silver sandals are great, it's that multi-color block heel that makes all the difference.
Bringing it all together with matching chrome
In July 2024, Savannah Guthrie attended the Ralph Lauren Team USA celebration in Paris while wearing this silk, floral dress by Ralph Lauren, of course. Because the texture of the fabric gave it a chrome-like appearance, Guthrie completed the outfit with a gold chrome platform, which also perfectly complemented her bag. While a neutral-colored heel would have also worked, the gold chrome gave the overall look a fancier feel. After all, one should always bring their fashion A-game to Paris, and that's exactly what Guthrie did.
