6 Times Erika Kirk Fell Victim To The 'Republican Makeup' Trend

The Mar-A-Lago plastic surgery trend isn't the only beauty aesthetic sweeping through the ranks of MAGA women. TikTok users have also coined the term "Republican makeup" to describe the heavy, high-glam look that is popular on the right. It's marked by thick foundation, overdone bronzer, and smoky eye makeup. "Women like Karoline Leavitt or Melania Trump are demonstrating fealty to a very specific beauty hierarchy that's crafted in the image of the straight white male gaze," Juliet A. Williams, a professor of gender studies, told WWD in 2025. "The hair, the makeup and the clothes are a way of affirming that this beauty standard is the right standard, and it's a standard that positions a certain kind of white woman as the natural embodiment of femininity, and everyone else as a failed striver."

Erika Kirk, widow of activist Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA CEO, tends to wear heavy makeup. In fact, Kirk's face completely changes when she goes makeup-free. She's quite naturally pretty, but the goal of this aesthetic may not necessarily be to look beautiful. "It kinda reminds me of the French elite in the 1800s painting their faces with the thick white makeup," wrote one Reddit user. "In some ways [it's] more about conforming to their 'in group' than actually looking good."

Her dark bronzer needed a little more blending

At a 2026 Turning Point USA appearance in Arkansas, Erika Kirk gave a master class in badly blended makeup. On her cheeks, she was sporting heavy bronzer that looked like blocky triangles with clearly defined edges. This kind of streaky contouring is a hallmark of Republican makeup. Kirk is hardly the first woman wanting to create the appearance of hyper-sculpted cheekbones, but we are begging her to use a Beautyblender.

She couldn't stop doing an intense smoky eye

Since Erika Kirk has become a more public figure in the wake of her husband's death, she's made a dark, smoky eye her go-to makeup look. At the Fox Nation Patriot Awards, Kirk rocked her usual beauty style, reminiscent of another high-profile MAGA lady, First Lady Melania Trump, who is rarely seen without this version of Republican makeup. Kirk might be trying to highlight her eyes, but all that black and dark gray is harsh against her fair coloring. A softer shade would allow her features to pop without looking quite so severe. "I'm begging her to use brown mascara," wrote one Reddit user.

Her foundation was consistently thick

Thick foundation is the base that all the other elements of Republican makeup rests upon. It was super evident during a November appearance Erika Kirk made on Fox News, where she was interviewed by Jesse Watters. The look went beyond just preparing her face for TV. While plenty of people try to apply foundation for a natural look, Kirk's makeup actually appeared to erase any definition or depth from her face. The texture was also a dead giveaway. "Matte, heavy foundation defo reads Republican," wrote one Reddit user.

Her makeup was cranked up to maximum glam

In 2025, Erika Kirk appeared at a Turning Point USA event looking like she was on her way to a night out at the club. Her false lashes and tight-lined eyes were shockingly sultry for a political event. However, Republican makeup tends to favor heavily made up faces, regardless of the event or venue, like stage makeup that's been taken too far. "MAGA makeup is heavy, stiff, and takes itself too seriously," offered one Reddit user.

Her heavily filled eyebrows were doing way too much

During a 2024 appearance on the Blessings and Motherhood podcast (via Instagram), Erika Kirk proved she has eyebrow blindness. While her makeup was heavy, Kirk's overall look was pretty natural — except for her blocky brows. They were dark, relatively to her light complexion, and thickly filled. Going overboard with a brow pencil is a key feature of Republican makeup, meant to accentuate the eyes. But here, Kirk's overdone brows just dominated her look.

Her foundation was cartoonishly orange

At a 2025 Turning Point USA event, Erika Kirk appeared with a full face of makeup, and the intense contrast between her foundation and under-eyes was hard to ignore. Primarily, the problem seemed to be that the heavy orange tint to her base makeup, which was too warm for Kirk's natural skin tone, went way beyond sun-kissed. "She should get a better shade match for foundation," wrote one Reddit user. Considering President Donald Trump's affinity for self-tanner, this element of the Republican makeup trend seems like it originated with the commander-in-chief himself.
