While Reese Witherspoon launched her reading group with the aim of platforming women's stories, Reese's Book Club has additionally proved to change everything for the selected authors and their careers. "The unexpected piece of it all was the economic impact on these authors' lives," the "Legally Blonde" star told The New York Times. Receiving the club's yellow sticker provides a notable amount of publicity for the selected titles, with this spotlight often translating to increased sales. In fact, The New York Times reported that print sales of Reese's Book Club titles added up to 2.3 million copies in 2023 (per Circana Bookscan), outnumbering Oprah's Book Club and Read With Jenna.

The celebrity reading group was also launched in partnership with the Witherspoon-founded media company Hello Sunshine, with several Reese's Book Club selections being translated to film or TV through the production house. Witherspoon's backing doesn't guarantee an adaptation, but her stamp of approval definitely comes with a lot of opportunities. On top of this, there are a handful of writers who've actually had multiple works picked up by the "Walk the Line" actor.

Just as Reese's Book Club definitely has a preference for a specific genre, the bodies of work that Witherspoon double-dips in seem to point to what the actor enjoys most in her books. "Authors who take the time and care to write about the details of life are so incredible to me," Witherspoon told Goodreads back in 2018. "I have a deep appreciation for writers who are that observant and poignant." With this in mind, the authors who've had multiple books selected for Reese's Book Club promise to be a great addition to your reading list.

Celeste Ng shared two reflective mysteries with Reese's Book Club readers

Celeste Ng was the first author whose catalogue was double-dipped by Reese Witherspoon, with her titles ranking among the best thriller and mystery books from Reese's Book Club. First, "Little Fires Everywhere" was highlighted as the September 2017 selection, six months before the announcement of the Hello Sunshine-produced and Witherspoon-starring adaptation. Then, "Our Missing Hearts" was selected as the October 2022 read.

"Little Fires Everywhere" is a literary fiction and mystery novel that centers around two families living in picture-perfect Shaker Heights, Ohio, with an unconventional mother-daughter duo threatening to upend the community. "Celeste Ng writes with stunning accuracy about the power of motherhood, the intensity of teenage love[,] and the danger of perfection — and the fire that destroys it all," Witherspoon wrote of the novel on her website. "To say I love this book is an understatement!"

Ng brought her signature mystery to the science-fiction genre with "Our Missing Hearts," as the 2022 release centers around a 12-year-old boy's search for his disgraced mother in a dystopian, heavily-censored America. "I absolutely loved catching up with Celeste to talk about her thought-provoking, heart-wrenching novel," Witherspoon said. "I was so invested in the future of this mother and son." Clearly, Witherspoon is a big fan of Ng's work, so we wouldn't be surprised if this author appeared in the book club's catalogue again in the future.

Ann Patchett's versatility was showcased with two genres

Ann Patchett is another author who received double the love from Reese's Book Club. The Tennessee transplant's essay collection "This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage" was platformed by the group in November 2017, and her novel "Tom Lake" was an August 2023 book club pick. The author also interviewed Witherspoon for a Vanity Fair profile in 2020, while the actor has shouted out Patchett's bookstore Parnassus Books in Nashville, suggesting they have an all-around positive relationship.

Described as a hybrid of literature and memoir, "This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage" sketches a portrait of Patchett's life through her biggest commitments, exploring everything from interpersonal relationships to professional endeavors. "Reading these essays is like talking to one of your best friends," wrote Witherspoon on her website. "This collection [...] explores what it means to have friends, fall in love, struggle, succeed, and, most importantly, meet the right dog."

From there, Reese's Book Club readers were treated to "Tom Lake," a summery literary fiction that sees Lara Nelson recounting her romance with famous actor Peter Duke to her three daughters. "This delightful reflection on the power of young love, and deep appreciation of what makes a great marriage, stayed on my mind long after I read the (very surprising) last chapter," Witherspoon told Amazon Book Review of the novel. No matter the genre, Patchett seems to really speak to Witherspoon, making her a must-read author for fans of the "Cruel Intentions" star.

Curtis Sittenfeld has had multiple works backed by Reese Witherspoon

Reese's Book Club has also demonstrated Curtis Sittenfeld's writing versatility, selecting two distinct works from the author over the years. "You Think It, I'll Say It" is a short story collection that was highlighted in May 2018, with Hello Sunshine initially having plans to adapt the title into a scripted comedy series. Then, "Romantic Comedy" was selected as the reading group's April 2023 pick, with the romance set to join the list of Reese's Book Club picks that have made it to the big (and small) screen.

"You Think It, I'll Say It" is a collection of 10 stories that explore ideas of gender roles, class, missed connections, and questionable life decisions through engaging characters and biting wit. "Every single character in this book is complex, beautifully flawed[,] and so multi-faceted — and all so interesting to unpack," Reese Witherspoon said on Instagram. "You won't want these short stories to end!" While the title was originally slated for adaptation, there haven't been any recent updates about production.

Sittenfeld changed things up with "Romantic Comedy," a romance novel following the unexpected connection between a comedy writer and a pop star. "It is such a hilarious, sweet, smart read that I think you're going to love!!" Witherspoon said of the novel. In February 2024, the Hello Sunshine Instagram page confirmed that the book was set for film adaptation with Witherspoon in a producing role. Readers who are intrigued by adaptation rumors should be sure to add this double-dipped Reese's Book Club author to their TBR.

Laura Dave's thrilling duology was enjoyed by the book club

There are several Reese's Book Club picks that have sequels or companion novels, but Laura Dave is the first-ever author to have her sequel added to the reading group's catalogue. The New York native's book "The Last Thing He Told Me" was selected as the May 2021 read before being adapted into an Apple+ series starring Jennifer Garner in 2023. Then, the thrilling novel's sequel was released in 2026, becoming the Reese's Book Club January pick ahead of the TV show's second season.

A suspenseful family drama, "The Last Thing He Told Me" centers around Hannah, a new wife and stepmother who's tasked with uncovering her husband's true identity when he suddenly goes missing. "There's so much to love about this thrilling, roller coaster of a novel — mysterious identities, unreliable friendships, dubious loyalties[,] and terrifying chase sequences through the streets of Austin, Texas," Witherspoon said on her website. The Hollywood figure served as an executive producer for the TV adaptation.

The sequel "The First Time I Saw Him" similarly follows Hannah and her stepdaughter Bailey as they're forced to go on the run in order to escape the looming threat of their past. Promising to be just as thrilling, Reese's Book Club deemed the sequel "a love letter to the original book" on Instagram. Overall, with these authors receiving double the approval from literary titan Reese Witherspoon, they're definitely worth checking out.
