Savannah Guthrie's Face Transformation Has Been Head-Turning
Amid "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie's inspiring life transformation, she has also undergone a head-turning face transformation. During a 2004 fundraiser for the Robin Hood Foundation, the journalist flashed a big smile and had no problem showing the natural fine lines around her eyes and mouth, which appeared to be the result of years of laughter and smiles. Her complexion was flattered by darker brunette locks that looked similar to the natural hair color Guthrie looks nearly unrecognizable with. Compared to a snap of the star taken 21 years later at the Project Healthy Minds' World Mental Health Day Festival though, what's most striking is how she has barely aged — and seemingly without turning to plastic surgery like other stars who have owned up to their cosmetic tweaks.
In the later snap, Guthrie had a few more visible lines on her face (and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that) but hadn't drastically aged. Her thicker brows and thinner lips were very similar to years before, though the NBC stalwart did appear to have slightly more volume in her cheeks. Also a little different? How Guthrie, or her makeup artist, did her makeup. The TV star embraced a pinker lipstick shade and sparklier eyeshadow with more fluttery faux lashes, which helped open her hooded eyes. Her skin's dewy glow was totally enviable too, suggesting she'd kept up with her skincare routine over the years.
Savannah Guthrie has struggled to feel confident about her looks
Throughout Savannah Guthrie's seemingly natural face transformation, she's been very honest about not always being happy with her appearance. In a very candid 2019 Health interview, she said that embracing self-acceptance has been "a lifelong struggle" and admitted, "I've never once felt good about how I looked on the outside. ... I'm not there yet, but that's my goal." She added, "A lot of us have that mental dialogue where we look in the mirror and we're like, 'Ugh.' And that's just not healthy." Guthrie (who we know is one of the "Today" stars who's stunning without makeup) explained she was determined not to pass the same negative feelings down to her daughter, Vale.
Guthrie shared a similar message for her daughter in an open letter published by "Today" in 2017 as part the show's "Love Your Body" week, which she explained she'd long struggled to do. "If you're like me, and so many women, you'll be tempted to judge yourself, to compare yourself, to berate yourself, to doubt yourself," she told Vale, sharing her hopes to teach her to love herself on the inside and out. "It is only natural to care about our physical appearance, and I'm not idealistic enough to think I could prevent that. But when you think about your body, let's think not about how it looks, but about all the things it can do," she added. And that's a body-positive mantra we can all get behind.
