Though Savannah Guthrie has found love with Michael Feldman, the father of her two children, there was a time she was left heartbroken. Before she and Feldman tied the knot in 2014, she was married to Mark Orchard for four years – but their tough split in 2009 left her devastated. "Probably the most difficult time was when I was getting separated and divorced from my first husband. I was in my 30s. I felt old, but I now see that I was pretty young, and I was sad about it," she told her fellow "Today" star Hoda Kotb on "Joy 101." Guthrie shared that the breakup happened around the time she started working at NBC, explaining, "I was ... trying really hard to make my way and make my little dream come true while other dreams were falling apart. And it made me have to really dig deep and I felt like a failure." But the difficult time changed her and made her Christian faith stronger. "I realized I didn't have to be perfect to be loved by God," she said.

Guthrie's divorce was so scarring she made it clear during an in-depth 2024 appearance on "Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky" that it isn't something she chooses to speak about openly. The NBC star spoke about setting boundaries for herself when writing her book, "Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere," explaining, "I don't want to talk about getting divorced. It was horrible and sad and it broke my heart and it took me years to recover and I'm not blaming anyone, but I don't really want to get into it, you know?"

Savannah Guthrie's faith has pulled her through a lot of post-divorce heartache as well

Following Savannah Guthrie's post divorce glow-up (which included getting married for a second time), she's been open about how her faith has pulled her through a lot more big life moments. In a 2015 Guideposts video, she spoke candidly about becoming a mom later in life (Guthrie was 42 when she welcomed her first child and pregnancy over 40 comes with an increased risk of complications). "[God] just showered me with enormous grace and love by allowing me to have a baby at my late age ... When you have a baby, you are so emotionally vulnerable. If anything happened to her I would be truly devastated and only it's my faith and trust in God that allows me to just carry on," she explained.

Guthrie, who's had a head-turning transformation, also relied a lot on religion in early 2026 amid the abduction of her elderly mother, Nancy Guthrie. Addressing the heartbreaking crime on Instagram, the "Today" anchor asked fans for their prayers and wrote, "We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him." The star also shared a bible verse and offered a reward for information leading to her mom's return.
