Vera Wang's Platinum Blond Hair Makeover At 76 Proves There's No Age Limit For Taking Risks
Vera Wang has proven once again that there is no age limit for taking risks with our hair. The legendary fashion designer (and woman behind multiple Kardashian wedding dresses) appeared at the 2026 BAFTA Awards on February 22 with platinum blond locks down to her chest. The makeover marked a dramatic new chapter in her hair transformation, as the 76-year-old star is best known for rocking super straight, brunette locks. In fact, she had choppier, dark hair just one day earlier at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards Nominees' Party, suggesting she may have donned a wig.
Either way, fans noticed (and loved) her daring new 'do, complete with slightly darker roots, with one commenting on X, "Why not? She's 76 — she's living her life!" Another fan noted on Reddit, "76 and still redefining what timeless looks like. The platinum blonde actually makes her look even more futuristic." We loved her new look too, mainly because Wang refused to let her age define how she should present herself. Women have long been told warm blond, silvers, or browns are among the best hair colors for older women and, while that may be sound advice, Wang's cool (literally) new blond proves, sometimes, the best way to go is whatever makes you feel most confident.
Vera Wang has experimented with different shades of blond before
Despite dark locks being Vera Wang's signature style, her super light 2026 BAFTA 'do wasn't the first time she's proven there are no boundaries to blond. In February 2025, she gave us Gwen Stefani (even though platinum blond isn't Stefani's natural shade) vibes when she sported cool blond in a longer, sleeker way during another trip to London. "Do blondes really have more fun? If they are attending the BAFTA nominees RECEPTION ... at ... The NATIONAL GALLERY... one of the most beautiful buildings in LONDON!" the fashion designer captioned several Instagram photos of herself with icy tresses that finished just a few inches above her waist. "The blonde," one Instagram user commented with several heart and a heart eye emoji.
Wang doubled down on experimenting with lighter hair five months later when she looked ageless with a darker blond 'do. In several Instagram photos, her warmer hair had several complimentary lowlights, which also proved to be a hit with her fans. "OMG i LOVE the new color," one fan told the fashionista.
Wang's ever-evolving hair transformation proves she's truly put her money where her mouth is. Speaking about her influence in the fashion world, she told Harper's Bazaar U.K. in 2021, "I like to think that we really gave women permission to experiment and to be free. We showed women they didn't have to conform or dress a certain way. We really encouraged diversity." And that's clearly a mantra she takes seriously.
