You Won't Recognize Melania Trump In Throwback Pics With Bangs

As first lady, Melania Trump typically wears her hair parted down the middle and styled in loose curls. While the general public has come to expect this look from Melania, there was a time when she sported a completely different hairstyle, one that included bangs. It marked one of many significant moments in Melania's hair transformation throughout the years, but the bangs were a big shift from previous looks, where she opted for longer hair styled away from her face.

Melania rocked bangs for the first time back in 2002, and it's safe to say that bangs didn't suit the then-model at all. Melania has very fine hair, and the bangs looked limp and flat across her forehead. This was also back in the era when Melania was sporting her natural brunette hair color, a tone that's wildly different from her balayage tones of recent years. It was also around this time when Melania's rare curly hairstyle switched up her whole vibe. Clearly, she was having fun experimenting with her hair. And while the bangs from 2002 didn't look great, Melania gave them one more shot about 10 years later, and this time, things were slightly better, though not good enough for her bangs to stay in the picture.

Melania tried bangs once again in 2012

One stint with bangs wasn't enough for Melania Trump. The model got bangs cut again in the 2010s, and this time, the style was much more flattering. The bangs were thicker than they were in 2002, so they had more volume and life to them. She kept up with the bangs, rocking them at the "Celebrity Apprentice" live finale in New York City in May 2012 with Donald Trump.

While the later rendition of bangs were a better version than the thin bangs she sported in 2002, Melania wouldn't stick with them. As time went on, Melania grew out her bangs, and her hair evolved into the style that's now much more familiar to people: Her balayage color and her longer, loose layers. There was thought behind this evolution, as her hairstylist Mordechai Alvow told Yahoo Beauty in 2017. "We took into account that she'll suddenly be in the public eye in a big way," Alvow explained. "We wanted a consistent look that allowed the public to feel more connected to [Melania]." Bangs were clearly too finicky to achieve this desired look of consistency and predictability. Now she wears her hair with a middle parting and the bangs are long gone. Instead, she goes for face-framing layers and loose curls, something that obviously suits her hair texture.
