The Inappropriate Outfit Cheryl Hines Will Never Live Down

Actress Cheryl Hines, who is best known for playing Larry David's long suffering wife on the HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm," had a memorable fashion miss at an Emmys afterparty in 2022. The sparkling floor length gown featured a low-cut neckline and shimmering dark sequins. While it's clear she was going for ethereal mermaid vibes, the gown's glistening color and stretchy texture, combined with the sting-like straps, evoked a mom wearing a bathing suit poolside more than a mythological siren.

More than that, though, the number one thing that places this look on the 'fashion don't' list is the poor fit. Hines' figure appears to be squeezed into a dress that doesn't accommodate her. As a result, she looks excessively busty, which makes for a more sultry look rather than a classy ensemble one usual wears for Hollywood award celebrations. A closer look at the photo reveals the sides of the dress seem to be cutting into her skin, too. As a result, she doesn't look fully at ease or natural in the gown — perhaps because she's not comfortable it. But it's not just Hines' outfits that have people talking for all the wrong reasons.

Cheryl Hines is going political

These days, Cheryl Hines seems increasingly out of step with her Hollywood circles, so perhaps it's not surprising she made such an awkward fashion misstep at the 2022 Emmys afterparty. She might not have Mar-A-Lago face, the plastic surgery trend that's sweeping through Republican circles, but her recent public appearances suggest she may soon become influenced by it. Hines hails from the world of Hollywood, an industry that traditionally skews liberal, and has worked closely with outspoken progressives like Larry David and the late Rob Reiner. However, she has increasingly become associated with the MAGA movement because of her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent presidential candidate-turned-Secretary of Health. Hines and Kennedy's marriage has some glaring red flags, and yet, the actor has expressed support for her husband's anti-vaccine positions and for President Donald Trump.

But despite wading into the political fray, Hines has expressed frustration that her husband's reputation appears to be overshadowing her career as an actress. During an episode of the "Hot Mics" podcast, Hines revealed that an appearance on "The View," intended to promote her memoir "Unscripted," got sidetracked by discussion of her husband. "I was actually hoping it was gonna be more personal," she said. "They just wanted to grill me about Bobby."
