Today Show Co-Host Sheinelle Jones Has Worn Some Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark
If you're a fan of "Today," then there's a pretty good chance you know Sheinelle Jones. In October 2014, Jones joined the cast as part of "Weekend Today," and slowly made her way up the ranks, going from co-hosting "3rd Hour Today" in 2019, to sliding into the coveted fourth hour slot alongside Jenna Bush Hager. On December 9, 2025, "Today" announced that Jones, after a year of 60 contenders who co-hosted with Hager, had been made the permanent co-host.
"This marks an exciting new chapter for the fourth hour," executive vice president Libby Leist and executive producer Talia Parkinson-Jones of "Today" said in a statement to the staff. "Jenna and Sheinelle are two extraordinary talents who have grown within the ranks of 'Today.' They are beloved for their authenticity, warmth and genuine connection with our 'Today' audience."
For as long as she's wanted to be a news anchor, Jones has also been into fashion. In November 2019, on Glamour's podcast, "What I Wore Then," Jones discussed how she chose what she was going to wear her first day on "Today," which, of course, included calling her friends. "All my friends said, 'Wear color... Something floral but not too crazy. Pretty colors. Fall colors,'" Jones told Glamour, adding that she went with a navy and orange dress by Cynthia Rowley that, at the time, match the set of "Today." But just because someone loves fashion, that doesn't mean they always get it right. After all, if Beyoncé has worn outfits that totally missed the mark, it can happen to anyone, including Jones — which actually puts her in great company.
Matching the shrubbery is never a good look
In May 2024, Sheinelle Jones attended the Met Gala celebrating "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. While the Met Gala served up several of 2024's best dressed stars, Jones wasn't one of them. As we can see in this adorable selfie moment between Deborah Roberts and Jones, it's hard to tell where the shrub décor stops and Jones start. Granted, Jones was there on assignment, interviewing celebrities, but that doesn't mean she can't participate in the theme and let herself get creative with her look. Any color would have been better than green, although it is a cute halter top dress.
Looking a little disheveled for the ballet
For the New York Ballet 2022 Fall Fashion Gala in September of that year, Sheinelle Jones outfit missed the mark in a few ways. For one, the muted pink color not do her usually radiant complexion any favors. Jones looks gorgeous in bright and bold shades, so this hue washed her out. Meanwhile, the shape and cut of the dress looked as if the designer got tired halfway through making it and lost the plot. The tulle tiers were confusing and created an overall disheveled appearance while the bust appeared to made of the saddest-looking cloth flowers to ever grace a gown. If these were real flowers in a vase at someone's home, they would have been thrown out.
When an avant garde outfit goes wrong
Like any attempt at avant garde clothing, this matching pantsuit is better in theory than in real life. When Sheinelle Jones took the stage at the 2019 Essence festival in July 2019 in New Orleans, she wore this one-strap, plaid pantsuit that looked like someone had cut pieces of fabric and attached it to her Jones' body without any rhyme or reason. Although we can't expect many others to be able to turn a pantsuit into a sleek fashion statement like Kate Middleton does, one would hope that the people on Jones' team would have pointed this out. While Jones has said she doesn't have a stylist, she does have coworkers and friends.
Sometimes playing it safe misses the mark
While once upon a time, a plain white shift dress would have broken the long standing "not white after labor day" fashion rule, by 2019, it was a lackluster look.
Unfortunately, Sheinelle Jones didn't get that memo when she attended the Hudson River Park Friends Playground Committee Fourth Annual Luncheon in January 2019 and went for that outdated outfit. Although one could argue she dressed appropriately for a luncheon, the location was still New York City, meaning it would have been more than okay to elevate an afternoon lunch look with color and even a few sequins. Instead, Jones decided to play it so safe in her attire that she looked both boring and bored.
Underdressed for being an honoree at ColorCom28
When Sheinelle Jones attended The ColorComm28 luncheon at The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in February 2022, she missed another opportunity to really do it up with her outfit. While there's nothing wrong with Jones' black pants, matching top, and white blazer, it pales in comparison to the outfits her peers are wearing in the photo. Lauren Wesley Wilson and Tiffany Cross are standing beside her in dazzling colorful dresses that make it seem as if Jones' didn't get the party invitation until the last minute. Given that Jones was an honoree at the event, one would have expected her to step up her fashion game a bit more.
A little too casual for the Grammys
Is this floor-length strapless dress fantastic? Absolutely. Is Sheinelle Jones slaying it to the moon and back? You better believe it. But does it miss the mark for the event? Unfortunately, yes. As much as Jones pulls off the look, has clearly joined the ranks of celebs who have mastered the red lip,
The 60th Annual Grammy Awards in 2018. That being said, printed fabric, even on a dress of this design and caliber, immediately gives the look a casual feel. Jones could have done so much better.
Bright and bold colors would have been best here
In June 2024, Sheinelle Jones temporarily joined the fourth hour on "Today" to co-host alongside Hoda Kotb. Considering how much of a big deal this was for Jones, you'd think she would have gone with a more memorable outfit. While the light lilac top, matching blazer, and white pants work fine together, they paled in comparison next to Kotb's bold blue and white striped shirt and black pants. On top of that, Jones' blazer appeared to be made of linen and slightly wrinkled, giving it an unprofessional appearance. Although it's unconfirmed whether the ladies at "Today" discuss their outfits beforehand, it still would have made more of an impression on viewers if Jones opted for red, kelly green, royal blue, or any color that would have drawn the attention to her — while still leaving some for Kotb, of course, too.
Beautiful, but underwhelming for the event
Normally, The White House Correspondents Dinner is a chance for media professionals and politicians to get dressed up with the same level of glamour as Hollywood. For example, this is one of the few times that even Kamala Harris ditched her go-to pantsuit for something fresh, opting to wear a black sequined gown by Celine. However, when Sheinelle Jones attended in April 2024 wearing this beautiful full-length, off-white gown with embroidered detail by Lela Rose, she missed an opportunity to get dressed to the nines. Given how understated the gown was, she could have gone bolder with the accessories. Instead, she stuck with a basic bangle, which made the entire outfit underwhelming rather than memorable.
Channeling Karoline Leavitt is never a good idea
In October 2017, Sheinelle Jones attended the Variety's Power Of Women: Los Angeles, channeling a vintage look that didn't quite fit the occasion. Between the floral print and conservative design, the look served grandma vibes that were in stark contrast of the event's themes of celebrating modern women. In hindsight, sticking with a single color, like solid red, which signals confidence, would have been more appropriate. However as Jones said in 2019 on Glamour's podcast, "What I Wore Then," when it comes to her clothes, there are no designers involved. "We're at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's just like everybody else," explained Jones. While that may be case, that doesn't mean you can't take some fashion risks, especially for public appearances.
