Carrie Underwood's Inappropriate Denim Outfit Was Too Much For Morning Television

Carrie Underwood didn't hold back for her Good Morning America concert in August 2024. The singer performed in Central Park in a sensational floral jacket and jewelled belt, and styled them with the tiniest pair of denim shorts. Like, these shorts were microscopic. No shame to Underwood. She looked fabulous, and it was a worthwhile opportunity to show off her toned gams, since Underwood has famously undergone an epic fitness transformation. Nonetheless, the shorts were a tad skimpy for morning television.

Underwood didn't miss the chance to add even more denim to her look, thanks to a pair of matching cowboy boots that suited the sex appeal of the outfit, even though not exactly the daytime TV vibe. The "American Idol" winner sang some of her greatest hits to the audience, including her classic "Before He Cheats" and "Out of That Truck." The concert was a special moment for Underwood, as only the day before, Underwood announced that she would be replacing Katy Perry as the new judge on "American Idol." No one knows that world better than her, as a winner-turned-judge. In spite of all of her career success, however, Underwood has had a few run-ins with denim that have proven to be flops.

Carrie Underwood has struggled with denim on stage before

Carrie Underwood has a history of denim flops, particularly when it comes to jean shorts (jorts, if you will). There were her short-shorts on Good Morning America in 2024, and there was also her acid-wash denim outfit at the 2022 iHeartCountry Festival. Underwood wore distressed, purple jean shorts with a wide, bedazzled jean vest and sparkly, denim boots. The boxy shape of the silhouette was unflattering on the otherwise stunning star, and the mixed denim tones made the outfit super chaotic. It certainly earns a place on the list of Underwood outfits that just didn't work.

Despite these two flops, Underwood has undergone a stunning transformation from her early days on "American Idol," and tends to have a reputation as a stylish dresser with a penchant for taking risks that typically pay off. In speaking about her style as a newly-appointed judge on "American Idol," Underwood said in 2025, "I absolutely love fashion and getting to play dress-up for my job," per People. It's clear that fashion sparks a lot of joy for her, and those rare flops in Underwood's sartorial history are just small blips in an otherwise stylish life.
