Princess Beatrice Fashion Mishaps That Stunned Royal Fans

Princess Beatrice has suffered through a few fashion mishaps. From slipping dress panels that revealed her underwear to awkwardly stealing the show on a very important wedding day, Beatrice has fumbled through some wardrobe mistakes. They happen to everybody, but for Beatrice, with paparazzi following her around and royal dress codes in her head, the stakes are much, much higher.

Beatrice isn't the only royal woman with a repertoire of sartorial mishaps. Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, suffered her own series of wardrobe mishaps that stunned royal fans. Similarly, Catherine, Princess of Wales, had a fashion faux pas that even Prince William called out. On a wider level, many members of the royal family wore outfits that were beyond controversial, from Princess Diana's racy revenge dress to Meghan Markle's bare shoulders at a Trooping the Colour. Beatrice is not alone by any stretch, and joins the ranks of her fellow royals who have fallen victim to their own fashion mishaps.

Beatrice's infamous fascinator was a huge distraction at Prince William's wedding

There is no royal accessory quite as infamous as Princess Beatrice's beige fascinator; the princess wore the horrendous headpiece to the April 2011 wedding of Prince William to Catherine, Princess of Wales. The internet was nothing short of insane over the Philip Treacy item, and Beatrice accidentally stole the show in a way. Basic wedding etiquette states that guests don't upstage the bridal couple; this includes obvious details, like avoiding white, but it also includes anything dramatic or attention-grabbing. So, Beatrice's outrageous fascinator wasn't just ugly; it was actually poor wedding decorum.

Princess Beatrice's cloche hat felt like a Halloween accessory

While attending the Derby Festival in southern England in June 2013, Princess Beatrice arrived in a black and white mini dress cinched with a statement belt. She completed the look with a burgundy cloche hat, but the 1920s-style accessory looked like a costume piece from a theater set rather than high fashion. The hat sat so close to Beatrice's head that it flattened down any natural volume in her hair, giving the whole look an unflattering silhouette. A bolder fascinator that sat higher on Beatrice's head would have been a better choice.

Princess Beatrice's bow-covered jacket was unflattering

One of Princess Beatrice's biggest fashion mishaps was the grey coat dress that she wore to the Trooping the Colour in June 2013. The piece was ill-fitting and made Beatrice look larger than she was. On top of it, the many black velvet ribbons made the already-drab dress even more joyless as they limply hung down her frame. To top it off, her lace, black fascinator was a chaotic topping that didn't enhance the struggling coat.

Princess Beatrice's open blouse struck the wrong note for a royal

Princess Beatrice went out to Berners Tavern in London in September 2014 wearing a black, knee-length skirt paired with a black, button-up top. The look was perfectly fine for a casual evening out, except that Beatrice's black blouse puckered open under her top button. It looked like a case of the top being a little too small for her, and the shirt pulled open around her stomach. On top of that, it looked like Beatrice missed a top button, as the black blouse was a little low-cut (by royal standards).

Princess Beatrice had to quickly save a dangerously high slit

Princess Beatrice wore a black Alexander McQueen tuxedo dress to the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in March 2015. While Beatrice looked striking in the black gown, she got dangerously close to a wardrobe malfunction. As she took a step, the dress opened up, and she quickly grabbed it to keep it closed. A gown with such a high slit is a huge risk, and Beatrice almost gave the paps an underwear shot. Thankfully, she was quick on her toes.

Princess Beatrice's slip had a slip-up

In the summer of 2017, Princess Beatrice joined her sister, Princess Eugenie, for a party at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Beatrice wore a sheer, midi-length navy dress with cape shoulders that would have been perfectly nice for the occasion, save for one tiny detail. The nude slip underneath her dress rolled up around her hips and showed her underwear, which, royal or not, creates a bit of an awkward situation. It was an unforgettable and unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.

Princess Beatrice wore all black when she wasn't in mourning

Part of the dress code for the British royal women is that wearing black is primarily reserved for mourning. On other occasions, the general expectation is that female members of the royal family wear brighter colors. The late Queen Elizabeth II adopted this principle in her wardrobe; she always wore colorful outfits, save for funerals. So, when Princess Beatrice attended the Third Annual Berggruen Prize Gala in New York in December 2018, her somber, black outfit was a strange choice, and didn't jive with royal wardrobe standards. On top of this, the fringe tassels on her robe felt like an out-of-place detail.

She wore the same gown as Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh in the span of two days

There's no chance of looking unique! Princess Beatrice and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, accidentally wore the same dresses only two days apart. Sophie wore the pink, floral Zimmermann piece first, at the Order of the Garter Service on June 17, 2024, at Windsor Castle. Sophie accessorized with a pale pink, angled fascinator. Two days later, Beatrice arrived on the second day of the Royal Ascot in the same beloved pink dress, adding a pop of color with an oversized, pink headband. At least they didn't wear the same dress to the same event.
