Strange Things About Hailee Steinfeld And Josh Allen's Marriage We Can't Ignore
In case you missed the big news, Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are expecting their first baby together. To no surprise, the couple announced Steinfeld's pregnancy on Instagram with a cute video that included Allen kissing her belly, while Steinfeld wore a top that said "mother" all over it. Steinfeld, who's both an actress and singer, was first spotted with the Buffalo Bills quarterback in mid-2023. By July 2024, the couple had gone Instagram official when Allen posted a series of photos of the two of them together, including a shot of them in Paris. Before 2024 came to a close, the couple got engaged.
"We were in Malibu, which is my happy place, and it was magical. That's the word," Steinfeld told Who What Wear in February 2025 about the November 2024 proposal that she didn't see coming. While some couples enjoy a long engagement, Steinfeld and Allen didn't waste any time in tying the knot, getting married on May 31, 2025. It was certainly some speedy wedding planning on their part, especially since they kept it top-secret and avoided making it into a total spectacle.
But as deeply in love as Steinfeld and Allen appear to be — and good for them — there are some strange things about their marriage that we can't ignore. Granted, no relationship is perfect, but some aspects of their relationship are headscratchers. Or maybe as non-celebrities, we just simply don't understand. Either way, here are some rather curious things about these two lovebirds and their marriage.
Their relationship moved very fast
Although there's no exact timeline for relationship milestones, there are averages worth noting. According to The Knot 2025 Real Weddings Study, in 2024, 57% of couples had been together for over a year before discussions of marriage were even broached. When proposals were finally made, the average engagement lasted about 15 months, and 52% of people started planning their wedding a year in advance of the big day.
But for some reason, Hailee Steinfeld, a celeb who doesn't hide her love of self-pleasure, and Josh Allen were in a rush to get to the altar. From the time they first started dating to the time they got married, it had been about two years total. While there's nothing wrong with that, per se, because there are three stages to falling in love: lust, attraction, and attachment, it's important to be out of the lust stage, also called the honeymoon phase, before you make any big life-altering decisions.
"During this stage, couples are often highly influenced by lots of love hormones," licensed marriage therapist Elizabeth Earnshaw, LMFT, told Mind Body Green in July 2022. "These hormones make us more likely to magnify the good and minimize the bad ... I always suggest couples move out of the honeymoon phase before getting engaged so they are going in with eyes wide-open." According to a 2015 study published in Economic Inquiry, dating three years or more can decrease a couple's chance of divorcing by roughly 50%. When Steinfeld and Allen got married, they were 28 and 29 years old, respectively. It's not as though they were running out of time, so the rush feels peculiar.
Allen's profession isn't without its issues
One of the major downsides of being in a relationship with a football player is that they suffer a lot of injuries, especially head injuries. In September 2025, Josh Allen injured his nose, but pushed himself to remain on the field until the game was over. Afterward, when asked about his face, Allen said, via The New York Times, "We can breathe, so it's good. I don't know what hit me, if it was a knee, a hand, it was somebody."
Less than a year before, when playing the Houston Texans, Allen's head was slammed into the ground during a tackle. According to the NFL, via The New York Times, concussion protocol was followed, allowing Allen back onto the field to finish the game. But that wasn't enough for neuroscientist Chris Nowinski, who wanted the NFL to further investigate the injury. "The more I watch this video, the more I'm troubled about what happened," Nowinski, who's also a former college football player, told CNN in October 2024.
The problem with frequent head injuries is the increased risk of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). A degenerative condition, CTE can result in impaired judgement, depression, aggression, and personality changes. The worst case of CTE was discovered in New England Patriots tight end, Aaron Hernandez, who committed suicide at 27 after being convicted of murder. "It's impossible to know precisely how the CTE impacted him ... CTE likely contributed to his depression and his erratic, impulsive, violent behaviors," neuropathologist Dr. Ann McKee told Today in September 2024. While there's no guarantee that will be Allen's fate, it's something to take very seriously.
Their high-profile careers could be problematic
Being in the limelight can't be easy. So when you take two high-profile celebrities and put them together, it's double the chaos. While some couples can weather the scrutiny that comes with fame, others can't. In fact, Josh Allen has already expressed his concern over people paying attention to his love life. When asked his thoughts about headlines regarding him kissing Hailee Steinfeld, during an appearance on "Pardon My Take" in August 2023, Allen was clearly unnerved. "The fact that anybody cares about that still blows my mind," said Allen, adding that the invasion of privacy felt gross and made him feel insecure.
But as much as no one wants to be photographed mid-makeout session — especially out of fear you'll look like Timothée Chalamet kissing Lily-Rose Depp — there's also the issue of Steinfeld and Allen's schedules. Although Allen's work-related travel will likely keep him solely in the US, as a film star, Steinfeld could end up anywhere for a project. Too much time away from each other can take a toll on a marriage. Then, of course, are the egos that come with these types of people.
"In marriage, most peoples' lives generally stay the same. That doesn't happen to celebrities," Rob Shuter, former publicist and editor-in-chief of Naughty Gossip, told Glamour in April 2016. "One movie or record can change their lives overnight ... It's really hard when you have people with an enormous amount of power, fame, money, and ego and you put two in one room." Although no one wants to believe they're an egomaniac, our culture's obsession with fame has created this mentality in celebrities.
The beginning of their relationship was sketchy
Although we'll never really know for sure, looking at their relationship timeline, Josh Allen had little to no time between his relationship with Brittany Williams and when he was first spotted with Hailee Steinfeld. From 2015 to spring 2023, Allen was with Williams, whom he first met when they were both eight. Interestingly, when their relationship ended, neither party acknowledged it. Instead, fans noticed that as of April 2023, Williams had removed all evidence of Allen from her Instagram.
The following month, paparazzi caught Steinfeld and Allen together, on what appeared to be romantic dates. In June 2023, a source revealed to US Weekly that the two had been together for about a month. According to the source, Allen was the first man in a long time that Steinfeld had been genuinely interested in. While no one could blame Allen if he had a fling after his breakup, because there are benefits to it, from what we see now, Steinfeld obviously wasn't just a fling.
When news broke of Allen's engagement to Steinfeld, a comment popped from Williams' account calling Allen a "brain dead CTE athlete," via Newsweek. It didn't take long for the comment to be deleted and for Williams to claim her Instagram had been hacked. While it's normal to be upset that your ex got engaged so quickly, especially after you'd been with them almost a decade and never got a proposal, it doesn't bode well for Steinfeld. Starting as someone's rebound or even worse, the other woman, isn't the best start for a successful relationship — if that happens to have been the case.
