Kate Hudson Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark

Something we really love about Kate Hudson? She's all about fun, family, and fashion. And when it comes to the latter, she has no regrets. "Anything that I've ever worn is always coming from a creative place for me. I never look back and regret those decisions," she told People. "I think there are things that other people might have thought weren't their favorite, but for me, I've always worn, and choose to wear, what makes me feel good and how I love to express myself," she added.

We love that attitude, because it would be easy for a star who has been in the spotlight for so many years (she gained attention for 2000's "Almost Famous") to wish she could take back a few no longer trendy ensembles. But despite Hudson embracing all of her past, present, and future looks, unfortunately, not all of her 'fits have been winners. Much like her mom Goldie Hawn has worn some inappropriate outfits, Hudson has followed in her footsteps and made a few fashion missteps that may have worked at the time, but don't cut it according to modern standards.

Her The Insider premiere ensemble added years to her young age

Kate Hudson was only 20 when she attended the L.A. premiere of "The Insider" in 1999, but her outfit made her look years older. She walked the red carpet in a lilac top tucked into a dark, metallic silver maxi skirt and added a semi-sheer white cardigan. But the whole ensemble fell flat. The colors were bland, and covering every inch of her body made the young star look frumpy. Equally, the pairing was too casual for a red carpet event.

We'd have styled her chic breastplate top differently

Kate Hudson stepped out in a stylish, metallic green breastplate top with a blazer draped over her shoulders at a 2020 Tom Ford fashion show. But while her top half sizzled, her bottom half fizzled. She paired it with a shapeless, green maxi skirt that swamped her lower half, covered her shoes, and looked more like a Halloween dress-up piece. If we were styling Hudson (who looked so different with her short hair) we'd have added well-tailored, high waisted pants for a more structured, flattering silhouette.

Her satin green ensemble had too much going on (including shoes that didn't match)

At the 2019 #GirlHero Awards, Kate Hudson's satin, green dress had way too much going on. The shiny material featured a feather print, had overemphasized shoulders, a frill across the bottom, and a knot tied over her thigh to make one side shorter. With all that going on, we didn't know where to look, and the result wasn't flattering. We also weren't fans of her shoe choice, as the black-and-white open toes didn't match her dress and distracted from her already busy ensemble.

Kate Hudson's Stars 2001 Benefit Gala look was ill-fitting

When Kate Hudson attended the Stars 2001 Benefit Gala, her outfit was seriously ill-fitting. The "Bride Wars" actor wore a nude, sheer lace top over a sheer, black lace top with oversized, black, long pants. The lace over lace didn't work, and the baggy top over baggy pants didn't flattering her enviable figure either. The high-neck nude overlay felt unnecessary, and the outfit would have been far chicer and created a more flattering silhouette if she'd ditched it.

She over-accessorized her 2002 VMAs look

Remember the rule that you should always take off one accessory before leaving the house? Kate Hudson should have considered that at the 2002 VMAs. She wore a long, strapless, black top over bootleg jeans (which were too long) and added several strands of long, silver necklaces complete with tassel charms. The statement necklaces were too much though. The shiny jewelry ruined the clean aesthetic of her halterneck number, which already added plenty of sparkle and color below her neck.

Her dark grey dress added too much bulk to her figure

At the Novak Djokovic Foundation London gala dinner in 2013, Kate Hudson's shapeless dress didn't do her figure many favors. The train seemingly made the garment heavy and weighed it down, while adding bulk around her hips that didn't compliment her fit figure. The star held a studded clutch and stacked two chunky chain bracelets on her right wrist, which felt too much when the dress already had so much going on, including embellishments over her chest.

Kate Hudson's 2021 Venice Film Festival dress washed her out

Kate Hudson walked the red carpet at the at the 2021 Venice Film Festival in a long, nude, A-Line dress with spaghetti straps over a long-sleeved top that matched her skin tone. But both cool-toned pieces were too close to her complexion and hair hue, so totally washed her out. The fit of the dress was also a little too small over the "Fool's Gold" star's chest, and the lack of color or embellishments made the whole look appear bland and uninspired.

Her tiered, TRL dress didn't flatter her figure

In 2008, Kate Hudson appeared on "TRL" in an unflattering, tiered dress. The light gray number was bland in color and featured frilly, cap sleeves and tiers all the way down her body, which swamped her figure. Her shoe choice was equally uninspired. The dark nude, open-toe heels would have worked better with a more exciting ensemble, and something with more character would have elevated this look. We'd have suggested glossy, metallic silver heels, which had a major comeback in 2023.

She mixed seasons in a gray dress

Kate Hudson's outfit at the Barbie retrospective with Oribe in 2010 seemed confused about what season it was. The ensemble consisted of a gray, semi-sheer dress that screamed summer, but featured a string of pearls and a chunky, winter scarf around her neck. Hudson paired the look with sky-high, peep-toe heels. Considering it was April in Miami, the ensemble didn't make much sense for the occasion. On top of that, the dress' material looked cheap (though we doubt it was) because it was so sheer and wrinkled and the bottom.

Kate Hudson caught heat for her busy 2018 SAG Awards dress

Kate Hudson's dress at the 2018 SAG Awards was... a lot. The pink tiered number was covered in black hearts, had lace and ruffles over her chest. As if the many fabrics weren't enough, the garment also featured a black waist bow which looked like too much on an already overdone garment. "What little girl's bedroom curtains did she steal to create this dress?" one X user questioned. Another tweeted, "I think the dress #KateHudson wore to the #SAGAwards would look so much better without the black lace..."
