Jennifer Lawrence Outfits That Totally Missed The Mark

Sometimes, Jennifer Lawrence and fashion just don't get along. It's hard to forget the first time she took a tumble at the 2013 Oscars because of her huge Dior gown (the second time was in 2014, but that was because of a traffic cone). Then, in 2023, Lawrence's belt popped off her waist while she gave a speech at Saks Fifth Avenue. Aside from her wardrobe malfunctions, the "No Hard Feelings" star has experienced plenty of other fashion fails. In those cases, it was because Lawrence had been caught wearing outdated trends or she simply was a walking sartorial disaster.

While Lawrence has had many jaw-dropping fashion moments, such as the gorgeous red Calvin Klein Collection gown she wore to the 2011 Oscars, some of her outfits have been as quirky as her personality. We respect that she takes fashion risks, but many of them are flops. From shapeless frocks to a shirt with a train that had us scratching our heads, there are several 'fits Lawrence should have thought twice about before stepping out of her house.

Jennifer Lawrence's t-shirt with a train was just confusing

Jennifer Lawrence opted for a casual look while promoting "Die My Love" at the 2025 San Sebastian International Film Festival in a navy t-shirt with rolled sleeves. While there's nothing wrong with wanting to be comfy, her oversized t-shirt and super-long train that trailed behind reminded us of a child dragging their blanket behind them at a sleepover. Though the actor coordinated the look with matching pants with sandals, it seemed her tailor was away on vacation as the hemline draped over her feet and dragged on the ground. We don't even want to think about how many germs she picked up that day.

Jennifer Lawrence kept making fashion misses during the promotion for Die My Love

Shapeless seemed to be the theme for Jennifer Lawrence when promoting "Die My Love." During one September 2025 screening, the mom-of-two showed up to the red carpet wearing an olive green dress with enormous shoulder pads and a cut-out at the waist that featured a thin belt. The asymmetrical look was highlighted by a cape on one side and a long sleeve on the other. Though cutouts were once a massive trend, by 2025, they were long outdated. Moreover, the earth tone of the garment did Lawrence's usually bright complexion no favors. If she was going for drab, she definitely nailed it with her fashion, and her expression seems to indicate that she thinks that as well.

Polka dots were not an Oscar-worthy choice for Jennifer Lawrence

There's a way to lean into the polka dot renaissance without looking too twee, and Jennifer Lawrence managed to modernize the pattern in her 2024 Oscars Dior gown. However, while the dress was perfectly fine for a formal event, it would have been more suited for the BAFTAS or the SAG Awards. When it comes to the Oscars, we want to see stars in their most glamorous 'fits, and that means bling, yards of chiffon, and lace overlays. Instead, JLaw looked a bit too casual in her dotted dress, which didn't even have any embellishments to jazz it up.

Jennifer Lawrence had one too many belts on her dress

It's safe to say that Jennifer Lawrence loves to experiment with her style, but not every risk lands with a win. Lawrence, who has been caught wearing outdated trends, attempted the '80s style fad of wearing two belts at once, but instead of cinching both on her waist, she wrapped one strap around her thigh area over a white, chiffon dress. Aside from the white gown being a bit boring, the black bands did nothing to enhance it and instead made the whole look gimmicky. We love a good Dior moment, but this one sadly fell flat.

Jennifer Lawrence's goth look needed something extra

Jennifer Lawrence lived every goth teenager's dream when she wore a black Dior dress with sheer lacy cutouts and spaghetti straps at the Elle Women in Hollywood awards in 2017. She accessorized her moody look with chunky black sandals and layers of thin chain necklaces, looking like she stepped right out of a "Charmed" episode. This outfit was a cool nod to the '90s, but it felt a bit too close to the era. We wish Lawrence had modernized her dress with some statement jewelry and colorful strappy heels. At least the Halliwell sisters would have approved.

The time Jennifer Lawrence wore her entire closet

We know it's customary to wear something of the designer's while attending their fashion show, but it looked like Jennifer Lawrence wore Dior's entire collection in 2017. The "No Hard Feelings" star opted for a maximalist look with  a lacy white dress, long tasseled belt, a black and white cardigan, fedora, large sunglasses, high-top sneakers, and a cartoony Dior bag ... shall we go on? If Lawrence was trying to be incognito, she definitely failed. We're sure she got a lot of looks that day, but not in a good way.

Jennifer Lawrence's love for Dior was on full display

We get it — Jennifer Lawrence loves Dior. But fans don't have to know that she also wears the designer's briefs, which were on full display while attending an event honoring the brand in July 2017. The double dose of fringe was already over-the-top, and although we love when celebs rock the sheer trend, the white briefs felt out of place and stuck out like a sore thumb. In our opinion, a lacy pair of shorts in black would have looked more cohesive with the outfit.

Doubling up on patterns don't always work

Mixing and matching patterns is a fun way to experiment with fashion, but sometimes, it just doesn't work. Case in point: Jennifer Lawrence's "Passengers" photo call outfit in 2016 was a clashing mess. The periwinkle, cherry print top was cute on its own, as was her black leather skirt embellished with silver flowers. However, the two dramatically different patterns failed to harmonize when worn together, and it looked like Lawrence just threw them on without giving a thought to styling her 'fit. We'll take a pass on this one.
