The announcement received negative online attention and fueled speculation about the star's career, with some users predicting the connection would damage her reputation and others framing it as a misguided PR stunt. "I have a feeling this is a [PR] relationship but for Scooter," one user wrote on Reddit. "Her people overestimated her popularity to rehab his image." In this way, the Sweeney-Braun relationship marks another controversial moment in the "Anyone But You" star's career, though not quite as extreme as many of her other scandals.

While outlets were quick to report on possible love connections, insiders just as swiftly shot down the speculation, with a source reiterating Sweeney's single status to TMZ in early July 2025. "[She's] in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago," an insider told People in March 2025, following her breakup. "This is what she wants to focus on right now."

Given that Sweeney made several controversial headlines throughout 2025, it's not surprising the media is leaning into speculation about the star's love life. But we're going to need more than friendly wedding dances and casual group strolls to buy into romance rumors. As one Instagram user put it, "Poor girl can't say hi to someone without gossip."

Even so, a source close to the celebs told TMZ that the two did not attend the wedding as a couple, asserting that the "Euphoria" actor is a close friend of the family and Leslie, specifically. Glen reiterated this fact in an interview "Today," explaining, "She and Syd are obviously great friends and it was a hell of a wedding."
