In this way, the Princess of Wales has captured our attention with her lightest color yet, infusing her typically dark tresses with a sunlight-catching gold hue. The new 'do was photographed on August 24 as Middleton, Prince William, and their three children departed Balmoral Castle, a royal Scotland estate, to attend church services at Crathie Kirk.

The royal's hair color initially made headlines when she was pictured celebrating her wedding anniversary in Scotland back in April, with outlets speculating that she was ushering in the summer months with a honey-toned color change. At the time of writing, it remains unclear if the princess has actually dyed her hair to be lighter or if the color change is a natural side-effect of vacations spent in the sun. Either way, the color is actually right on trend, with the royal avoiding most of the outdated summer hair looks of 2025. Not only are sun-kissed hues a natural staple of the warm-weather season, but similar shades like golden hour blonde have been garnering traction online. It's safe to say that we're obsessed with Middleton's sunlight-infused hair color.
Kate has experimented with subtle hair colors in the past
While Kate Middleton's blonde-toned hair may be the lightest shade we've seen on the duchess, she has experimented with some inspiration-worthy hues over the years. A standout example comes from the BBC's Tiny Happy People launch, with the royal lending her support to the early language learning platform while debuting dynamic highlights. The color additions aren't majorly different from her signature brunette, only a few shades lighter, but they add noteworthy dimension and warmth to her overall look.
On the flip side, Middleton has also committed to darker shades of brown. Following the 2021 holiday season, the princess resumed royal duties with a new, chocolate-hued hair color.
