Fall 2025 Fashion Trends You'll Be Seeing Everywhere

Fall 2025 is brimming with new trends. And this time, we're moving toward a louder aesthetic than we have in previous sweater seasons. "Last fall was all about quiet, understated minimalism, but this year will have more bolder pieces with personality," says personal stylist and image consultant Cynthia Kennedy. "Think exaggerated silhouettes, warmer colors, richer textures, and pieces that feel classic but with an edge." Women.com spoke exclusively with the creator of Your Style Transformation Academy about how to nail the biggest trends coming for fall 2025.

Kennedy's predictions for the season include a rise in equestrian wear, particularly riding boots, statement outerwear, and a turn towards rich, sepia-hued colors for fall. Chocolate brown, which was huge in 2024, is still reigning supreme as a dark tone base. Capes are major, and plaid got a new twist this season. Meanwhile, there are certain outdated trends to ditch for fall 2025, such as logo-mania and quiet luxury, as Kennedy emphasized. While zebra print was the hottest trend for spring and summer 2025, that is being replaced by the perennially-trendy leopard print, which is back in its most maximalist sense for fall 2025. Think warm, texturally-rich outfits that are infused with personality and life.

Cocoon coats & sculptural outerwear are how to stay warm in the fall

The cocoon coat is basically what it sounds like; picture an oversized outerwear with a high funnel neck and draped shoulders, perfect for wrapping oneself in on cold days. It has a rounded, oval shape, making it ideal for layering. "Oversized coats are still going strong but this fall they're evolving into more dramatic shapes with rounded shoulders, roomy sleeves and bold collars," Cynthia Kennedy tells Women.com exclusively. "These stylish coats make even jeans and sneakers look elevated." Don't be afraid of jackets with a little shape to them.

Caramel & rust tones are the warm hues of the fall

Earth tones are always a winning color palette for fall, but in 2025, we're going even richer. "Say goodbye to the icy grays of last year — this fall it's all about warmth," Cynthia Kennedy explained to Women.com. "Rich chocolate, caramel, rust, and chestnut are the perfect shades because they work with so many different skin tones. Plus, they pair well with black, cream, or denim, so you can mix them right into your closet without overthinking it." Rust and caramel tones add earthy opulence to a look, and give it some depth.

Plaid, but fresher

Back-to-school plaid is a mainstay every autumn, but in 2025, we're getting even more creative with this pattern through layering. "Plaid for fall isn't new, but this year it's showing up with unexpected twists, like oversized graphic checks, different color combinations, and even mixed plaids in one outfit," Cynthia Kennedy told us at Women.com. "One piece, like a bold plaid coat or a scarf with vibrant checks, will instantly make your outfit look more seasonal." Lean into that preppy vibe by wearing a plaid skirt suit, or layer a plaid overcoat with a different plaid scarf.

Pencil skirts -- and statement skirts -- are huge

When it's too chilly for a mini skirt, but you want something more elegant than pants, a pencil skirt is the way to go. Harper's Bazaar called the garment a timeless classic for fall 2025, while Vogue noted a surge in maximalist styles, with trends veering towards bold prints and stimulating textures on the classic, feminine staple. In other words, it's time to think beyond the plain black and taupe-colored skirts we associate with office wear.

Statement belts elevate any fit

After years of minimalist accessories like plain black and brown belts being the standard, fall 2025 has us ready to embrace accents with personality. "Belts are the new 'it' accessory," Cynthia Kennedy explained to Women.com. "Wide belts over blazers, textured leather ones over knits, glam buckles over coats, even multiple belts at the same time. It's the fastest way to cinch your waist, give shape to your outfit, and make basics feel styled instead of just thrown on." Who What Wear echoed this sentiment, calling statement belts the "cliché accessory" that's back in a big way in 2025.

Velvet Everything

Ahh, velvet. There's nothing quite as sensual or texturally stimulating as this plus fabric. And the good news is that it's a major theme for fall fashion in 2025. "Velvet is usually seen more around the holidays, but now it's coming into everyday wear," Cynthia Kennedy told Women.com exclusively. "I'm loving the tailored blazers, relaxed trousers, and accessories like belts and bags, in this fabric, because it adds luxe and richness to your outfit. Toss on a velvet blazer with jeans and boots, and you're instantly dressed up without trying too hard." Velvet is all over fashion this fall. From Alessandra Rich to Dries Van Noten, velvet is cropping up everywhere, adding its vintage glamor to even a simple outfit.

Bold leopard print is the wild child of fall 2025

Daring jolts of leopard print spice up a fall outfit, and this is the animal print of the season in 2025. Harper's Bazaar credited it as one of the dominating fashion trends for the fall and winter. We read leopard print as a neutral, so it can be styled with virtually anything, but it does so much for an outfit. Its warm, caramel tones create a visually stimulating palette, and it works with anything from jeans to a dress. After all, Cynthia Kennedy told Women.com that fall 2025 was all about boldness and warmth, and nothing nails this combo quite like leopard print. "Fall 2025 style has a little more personality than last year," Kennedy told us. "It's still polished, timeless, and classic but now it has richer colors, bolder silhouettes, and more texture which make every outfit feel fun and special." Sounds like perfection.

Capes are the hottest outerwear

Draping is huge for fall 2025, and nothing nails this trend better than a statement cape. It can function as a bold, statement piece, dominating the whole look. Or, it can be romantic and dreamy. The outerwear is literally the finishing touch of draping. Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Burberry are leading the charge on this trend. Whether it's a hip-length cape, or a full ankle-length cape, these essential fall pieces fit perfectly over chunky knits, and play well with either dresses or trousers. They also help to highlight boots and footwear. Thanks to its loose, swinging shape, it adds a touch of whimsy to any look.

Equestrian boots are the dominating footwear for fall 2025

Horse women are proving to be a big inspiration for fall fashion in 2025. "A couple of my clients are very excited about this fall trend," Cynthia Kennedy began. "These timeless boots are popular because they're elegant, sleek, polished, and they're the perfect swap from the chunky boots we've all been wearing. They make leggings and a sweater look put-together and are just as chic with skirts or dresses." Luxury brands like Toteme and Gucci are all over this trend for fall 2025, proving that you don't have to be a rider to enjoy the posh vibes of the equestrian world.
