Teeter From Yellowstone Has Such A Different Voice In Real Life

Just as Teeter from "Yellowstone" looks stunning, but majorly different in real life, actor Jennifer Landon also has a completely separate way of speaking than her on-screen counterpart. Fans of the show know the tough ranch hand, introduced in Season 3, has a very thick, almost cartoonish southern accent that several of her fellow characters struggle to understand. Meanwhile, Landon is a California-born actor whose actual voice can be heard in interviews, projects like "As the World Turns," and in Paramount's special introduction to her character.

"I mean, it's phonetically written, [Teeter] just speaks the way her family speaks," the Hollywood figure said in the special look, which she shared to her Instagram. She expanded on this thought on "The Bobby Bones Show" podcast, explaining that show creator Taylor Sheridan had written the accent into the script. "The dialogue was written phonetically, not in like proper, proper phonetics, but it looked a bit like gibberish, so that was there for me," she said. "She was a composite, I believe, of two people that Taylor knew, and she was maybe originally from Texas." Even so, Landon was able to bring something of her own experience and ideas into the distinct accent.

Jen continued to work on her accent throughout Yellowstone

Similar to Kelly Reilly, the gorgeous, real-life star behind Beth Dutton, Jen Landon puts on an accent that is majorly different from her own for her "Yellowstone" role. While Taylor Sheridan reportedly had some real-life inspiration behind Teeter and her distinct way of speaking, actor Jen Landon also brought her own touch to the character. The "Brothers" actor shared with "The Bobby Bones Show" that, not being southern herself, she pulled inspiration from her family. "I based her a bit on my great grandma, who is from Utah but speaks like nobody else in Utah," she said. "[She] lived underground in, like, a ground mudhouse until she was fourteen. And so I always figured that Teeter just spoke the way her family spoke."

Landon received both criticism and praise for her distinct accent, with the star continually working on the dialect throughout her time on "Yellowstone." Since the role was minor, coaching wasn't initially an option for the actor, but she was eventually able to afford professional training. "It wasn't until pretty late in shooting that I was like, 'Okay, let me take a big chunk of money and hire a dialect coach,'" she explained. "Which was a big deal for me to be able to afford to do that and carve the time to do that. So I did work, really going to the last season more specifically, on, kind of, really trying to ground that accent for me."
