Lauren Boebert Can't Seem To Nail Her Fake Tan (Cue Up A YouTube Video, Girl!)

Lauren Boebert is getting heavy-handed with those fake tans. This shouldn't seem too surprising, though, to anyone paying attention to her glam. The republican congresswoman repeatedly makes headlines for the wrong look. For instance, one unfortunate beauty mistake that Boebert just won't stop making involves using heavy, cakey makeup that looks thick and flat. And in terms of fashion choices, things are equally dire, as Boebert continually sports the same outdated denim trend on the regular. So for the longevity of Boebert's career, she might very well be served by hiring a stylist, and at the very least, looking up some tutorials on fake tans and appropriate makeup application after tanning.

But Boebert's unpopular personal style is less worrying than her problematic behavior. After a very publicized divorce, Boebert and her new date were removed from a performance of "Beetlejuice" for groping each other and vaping in the theatre. Later, in 2023, at the New York Young Republican Club's annual gala, Boebert's behavior was once again concerning. Staff had to stop serving her alcohol, believing that Boebert had been over-served, and she continually asked Donald Trump for selfies, so many times that his security team stepped in and asked her to stop. The Republican representative continually gets in her own way, and while bad fake tans are a small part of the mix, they certainly don't help.

The time Lauren Boebert was more orange than Trump

There are rumors that Donald Trump loves his tans. Whether his glow comes from tanning lotion or TV makeup, the president varies from bronze to orange hues on a continuous basis. Well, Lauren Boebert managed to completely eclipse Trump's tan with her own shockingly dark fake tan. Boebert posted a photo to Instagram on September 8, 2024 with three of her four sons alongside Trump. Standing next to four other people, Boebert's tan was a huge miss in comparison to their natural skin tones, including Trump himself. Picking the wrong color strength is a common fake tan mistake, and one that Boebert clearly made. She went way too dark for a reasonably healthy looking glow.

Lauren Boebert's fake tan led to some cakey makeup

Lauren Boebert had another unfortunate moment with fake tanning, and she made some mistakes trying to overcorrect the dark color. On May 31, 2021, Boebert posted a photo on Instagram of her Memorial Day highlights, which including a ride with other bikers. Boebert's fake tan was notably dark that day, which led to a common mistake around fake tans. Makeup can often appear cakey and heavy after fake tanning, because the process can dry out skin. Makeup goes on in a thicker, more uneven way because the canvas of the skin isn't smooth and hydrated. Boebert's heavy, dull makeup in this image — notably dark from the tan — could quite likely have come from this blunder.

Her face didn't match her hands

Another common pitfall for people who use fake tanner is the dilemma of different colored body parts. Often, hands return to the skin's natural, paler color much faster than the rest of the body. There are a few reasons for this; one, different skin textures on the body absorb the tanning color differently. Secondly, since people wash their hands much more frequently than the rest of their body, hands are much more likely to fade faster. This was certainly the case with Lauren Boebert's hands in a photo she shared to Instagram on March 28, 2021. They were much more pale than her face, emphasizing the fake glow she was rocking.

Lauren Boebert's fake tan made her makeup look flat

Another common problem from fake tanning is that makeup applied afterwards can look flat. It's caused by poor application, typically associated with spray tans and self tanners. The tanner evens out the entire body and diminishes the natural shadow and contour of the face. Makeup products that help with flatness, things like blush and bronzer, might not show up as dramatically since the base of the face is darker than normal. Lauren Boebert's tan looked flat and dull in a photo she shared on social media; her fake tan minimized any natural shadow under the cheek bones, or any natural blush tone, making her skin appear dull.

She looked day-glo orange next to Musk

There's another element to fake tanning that Lauren Boebert didn't consider: the problem of bright colors clashing. When fake tans are subtle and natural, bright clothing can look fabulous. However, when tans are garishly dark on a person – veering into an orange tone — bright colors create too much contrast. This was clear when Lauren Boebert posted a photo on social media of herself with Elon Musk. Next to him, her fake tan appeared much too orange, and her hot pink dress didn't help the situation at all.

Lauren Boebert's peach-picking tan was over the top

In a close-up selfie that Lauren Boebert shared on Instagram in August 2023, she inadvertently provided another moment for people to see one of her most common fake tan mistakes. Boebert's fake tan was too dark. To avoid this mistake, it's best to gradually tan to achieve natural looking results. While there isn't the immediate gratification of a striking tan, the final result is much more natural. Fake tans that are too dark end up looking artificial and distract from a person's features. Boebert overdid it with her tanning regimen.

Lauren Boebert's car selfie emphasized her mismatched coloring

Lauren Boebert's car selfie accidentally showed off two very common mistakes when it comes to fake tanning. The first is that her chest area is a different color from her face. Her chest appears much more red in the photo, while her face shows more orange undertones. This can come from not matching makeup to the base color of the body. One has to adapt their makeup routine to their tan. Secondly, her makeup appears too heavy and cakey in the photo. Ideally, a quality fake tan means that a person doesn't need to wear as much foundation, since the tan evens out someone's skin tone. However, Boebert applied a full face of makeup, and the final result was overdone.

A fake tan and pale lips washed out Lauren Boebert

Lauren Boebert repeatedly struggles with modifying her makeup to complement her tan color, and since Boebert wears a lot of makeup everyday, the problem gets emphasized even more. In 2024, Boebert rocked her signature, super dark tan but wore a frosty, pale pink lip, and the combination was an unflattering, washed-out finish. The undertone of her lipstick was too blue for the deeply orange undertone of her skin, and the combination created a dull finish that didn't complement her.
