We're So Glad Karoline Leavitt Ditched This Outdated 2000s Hair Trend (It Was Painfully Obvious)

As it's been noted time and time again, Karoline Leavitt, the youngest-ever White House press secretary, genuinely struggles when it comes to fashion. Sure, she can throw around insults at the reporters in the press pool and lie her pants off — and is excellent at both of those things — but her endless outfits that have missed the mark are impossible to ignore. While Karoline Leavitt excels at butchering the butter-yellow trend and wearing some really frumpy looks that don't flatter her, it appears she might be open to change.
We saw proof of this when Karoline Leavitt recently attempted to jazz up her outdated style. Although another total miss, it gave us hope. But even before this, she was actually able to surrender the Bumpit look. If you haven't been paying attention to Leavitt, who has been hanging around the MAGA crew for a while now, as recently as October 2024, she was still trying to make the Bumpit hairstyle happen.
During the peak of Y2K fashion trends, Bumpits were a plastic hair accessory that was used to create more volume at the crown of one's head. While Bumpits are a great asset for those who have thinning hair or maybe want to take things up several notches for an event, for the press secretary, it was an outdated trend she didn't want to give up; similarly, Karoline Leavitt refuses to leave the very outdated accessory, Neverfull MM tote bag by Louis Vuitton, at home. However, now that she's finally ditched the Bumpit, frankly, we couldn't be happier for her.
How Karoline Leavitt is wearing her hair these days
Now that Karoline Leavitt has kicked her Bumpit collection to the curb, she's opted for a softer look. Most days when she stands behind the podium in the press pool, she's wearing her hair parted slightly off center or directly down the middle. Although it's definitely a move in the right direction for Leavitt, she should seriously be considering side versus middle parts, because the latter isn't a look everyone can pull off.
"I always take into account a client's personality and other facial features, like their eyes, nose, brow and lips," stylist Roman Sys told Glamour. "A parting should feel instinctive and work with the rest of the hairstyle and look — there is no rule book for this." Considering Karoline Leavitt is a victim of eyebrow blindness, a common beauty blunder, a center part is really going accentuate that issue. There's also the fact that Karoline Leavitt has made several other makeup mistakes that are hard to ignore, including getting really heavy with the lipliner so, for her sake and what's more flattering for her features, she may want to stick with a side part until she figures out how to do her makeup — or fires her current makeup artist.
Either way, it's nice that the Bumpit is gone, at least for now. But if there's anything that's become blatantly obvious about those involved in the Trump administration, it's that none of them have ever picked up a copy of Vogue before in their lives. Because of this, we'll continue to be subjected to a whole boatload of fashion and style blunders.
