Sophie Grégoire Has Transformed Inside & Out Since Her Divorce From Justin Trudeau

Sophie Grégoire and then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced their separation in August 2023, with the public figures splitting after tying the knot in 2005 and having three children together. While the news took the public by surprise, Grégoire and Trudeau have arguably landed a spot on the list of celebrity couples that are total divorce goals, keeping things respectable while remaining committed to their family. "Instead of having the same path, it's parallel paths," Grégoire told Vogue about her post-separation relationship with Trudeau. "Parallel paths while having a family is possible when there's love and respect. You can still nourish each other in different ways."

In addition to this cordiality, Grégoire has managed to transform inside and out since her split from the former PM. Her wellness journey has been a major element of her post-divorce life, with the former political figure embarking on a publicity tour for her memoir-meets-self-help book "Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other" while continuing her long-running advocacy for mental health awareness and resources. She's also taken full advantage of her shifting lifestyle, seizing control of her social life while changing up her style.

Sophie's memoir reflects her ongoing wellness journey

Though "Closer Together" was submitted to her publishers before announcing her separation, Sophie Grégoire's post-divorce life has been dominated by the wellness and mental health efforts featured in the April 2024 book, and the ongoing emotional work she's doing in her life. "I'm still learning how to get out of my own way," reads an excerpt from the book shared by Elle. "Discovering more about the intricacies of my inner wiring and emotional posture, my childhood, the defense mechanisms I've developed, my ongoing longing for safety, and so much more."

The memoir-meets-self-help book, which arguably deserves a spot among the best memoirs written by first ladies, is designed in part to share scientific and psychological perspectives on mental health and wellness, combining these evidence-based approaches with the French Canadian's unique viewpoint and experiences. The book doesn't focus on Grégoire's marriage, but we imagine the featured wellness practices have contributed to the positive outlook she's shared about her reshaped family. "I feel that this space of calm inside me, most people sense it," she told CBC. "I'm in a family and I'm raising my kids, and I've had, you know, a partner where sincerity, open conversations, difficult conversations, are at the core of who we are as a family."

Her wardrobe has seen some subtle changes

Just as many celebrities have experienced epic post-divorce glow-ups, Sophie Grégoire's evolution includes subtle changes to her personal style. The Montreal native revealed to Vogue that leaving behind her first lady title gave her much more control over her social life, and this change bled into her style decisions as she's experimented with looks outside of the polished aesthetic that defined her stint in the political forefront.

An example of this comes from the Billboard Canada Women In Music event, with the former TV reporter wearing a silky midi dress featuring beaded embellishments. She styled the low-cut piece with a leather jacket and heeled sandals, wearing her hair in loose curls around her shoulders. The stylish look is perfectly suited for a night on the town but might've turned heads coming from the wardrobe of a first lady.

Grégoire also sported standout ensembles when she served as the star of Elle Canada's April 2024 release, posing in a white, asymmetrical dress from Sid Neigum on the cover. The piece, which featured some teasing cutouts, was accessorized with gold jewelry and brown-toned makeup for a modern and chic aesthetic. Overall, while Grégoire has already undergone a notable transformation inside and out, we can't wait to see what else the future has in store for her.
