10 Samantha Jones Outfits That Would Still Be Totally On-Trend In 2025
One of the best parts about revisiting "Sex and the City," is realizing Carrie wasn't the only fashionista on the show. For six seasons, Carrie's outrageous outfits were always front and center, while Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda didn't get the recognition they deserved when it came to their respective personal styles. Sure, Miranda always played it safe, but that certainly wasn't a bad thing. And Charlotte, of course, was so classic in the pieces she wore that a whole slew of her outfits would still be totally on-trend in 2025. But when it came to Samantha, well, she was in a league of her own.
"[Jones] was such a popular character and, even though she was the oldest of the four women, she was the funniest in her own way, and that always inspires me," SATC stylist Patricia Field told Elle in 2023 about creating Samantha's wardrobe. "Her style is that of a woman who is confident in her sexuality. But it also includes her comedic side, her sense of humor and irony ... Color was very important in her look. I never really did any neutrals. The character is much more defined with red and purple [shades]."
It's because of these aspects of Samantha's look that we could always count on her to dress perfectly for the occasion in her unique way. While she didn't wear too many pieces that would be considered classic, she wore a lot of timeless garments. If you're looking to spice up your wardrobe and want Samantha Jones to be your main inspiration, here are 10 looks that would still be on-trend today.
1999: The leopard print coat isn't just timeless, but iconic
Leopard print is everything you want it to be. Everyone from Jackie Kennedy to Scary Spice has rocked leopard print at some point, proving that it can be equal parts mob wife aesthetic and an item of timeless sophistication. What this means is that when Samantha went to watch the Yankees play with the girls back in 1999, she wasn't just in style for then, but for decades before and decades to follow. It's a print that's so deeply a part of our culture that you can't escape it even if you tried. (Although why would you want to?)
1999: The little black dress will never go out of style
No matter your gender or sexuality, if you're someone who wears dresses, then you need a little black dress (LBD) in your wardrobe. The LBD is both iconic and versatile, and something that's always a smart investment. In Season 2, Episode 11, Samantha wears a black halter dress with a plunging V-neck on a date with a man who previously broke her heart. Of course, she looked fabulous during her revenge dress moment. However, revenge is a tricky business and doesn't always go as planned — even if the outfit delivers.
1999: Every summer needs at least one linen jumpsuit
If anyone is going to show up to the Hampton Jitney with too much luggage, rocking a low-cut, coral-pink linen jumpsuit, it's Samantha Jones. Jumpsuits, in various incarnations, have been around since 1919, and when it comes to summer weather, linen has been a mainstay for centuries. In other words, a coral-pink linen jumpsuit is still perfect for a 2025 jaunt out to the Hamptons. But while linen will always be a wardrobe's best friend during the hottest months of the year, knowing how to clean your linen the right way will ensure you have it for many more summers to come.
1999: Like the LBD, a red dress in the afternoon is always a hit
Although Samantha wore a lot of great outfits, and when it comes to casual chic (at least in Samantha's world), a red dress nails it. It's simple, elegant, timeless, and definitely her color. In fact, if you revisit "Sex and the City," you'll notice that Samantha wears a lot of red. As Patricia Field told Elle in 2003, Samantha Jones was not a character that would be comfortable in neutral colors, so the fact that she wears so much red makes sense. Red, after all, is the color of passion, power, and confidence.
2000: Halter top dresses have been around since the 1920s and show no signs of leaving
Ever since the 1955 movie, "The Seven Year Itch," the halter dress has become iconic. Not only is it forever tied to Marilyn Monroe and that unforgettable scene where she's standing over the subway grate, but because it's a super-flattering design that works on all bodies, it's pretty universally loved. While Samantha's take on the dress is red because white would be a little too boring for her, and it doesn't have the full skirt that Monroe's dress had in "The Seven Year Itch," it's still a nod to a classic and sexy look that will always be in style.
2000: Just as en vogue for grilling sausages then as in 2025
More red? You better believe it! And what makes this specific outfit even more fun is the fact that it's gingham. In summer 2024, we saw the iconic gingham fashion trend take over, and as we rolled into spring 2025, this classic pattern became an easy way to upgrade your wardrobe. Gingham, similar to seersucker, has long been associated with warmer weather, and with so many colors to choose from, you can make it work for you, as Samantha is doing here while grilling sausages. This cheeky two-piece was just as in fashion back in 2000 as it is today.
2001: You can never go wrong with a one shoulder dress
While one-shoulder dresses come and go, fashionably speaking, this dress that Samantha wore in 2001 was absolutely all the rage. In the years that followed, the one-shoulder dress became less popular until 2024 when it became one of the easiest dress trends of that summer. Although not everyone loves the look — it can make you feel a little imbalanced after all — the point is that it's back, making it totally on-trend. On a side note, this was Season 4, Episode 2, when Samantha was in her sapphic era and dating a woman for the first time.
2002: Sequins, in all forms, are here to stay
Sequins may have once been something you only pulled out on New Year's Eve, but that's no longer the case. Not only can sequins be worn all year, but they're just as appropriate for a night on the town — as seen here on Samantha Jones during Fleet Week — as they are for Sunday brunch or even just running errands. The combination of turquoise sequins with a matching clutch and white patent leather coat pulls the entire look together, making it one of Samantha's most fun fashion moments that still works today.
2003: Perfectly over-the-top then and now
According to the Instagram account, Every Outfit on SATC, Samantha's deconstructed New York Dolls bodysuit is Patricia Field's Sistine Chapel — and it's true. As the account points out, it's more in line with Field's personal style than that of Samantha's, but either way, it's a look that stays forever memorable. It's also still on-trend today because it really doesn't have a time or place in history. Granted, if you were to wear this phenomenal outfit today, there wouldn't be many people who have heard of the New York Dolls, and even fewer who were fortunate to see them play live. But a quick Google search will tell you that they were an essential part of the underground NYC punk scene of the '70s.
2004: Leather jackets over dresses never go out of style
Of all the leather jacket styles to choose from, it's Samantha's yellow, double-breasted number that remains iconic. You can wear it with jeans and a t-shirt, paying homage to Marlon Brando in 1953's "The Wild One," or you can wear it over a dress or skirt, as Samantha does, to kick things up a few notches. It's one of the most versatile pieces out there and every wardrobe should have at least one of these leather jackets.
