Kristi Noem Hopped On This Outdated Fashion Trend A Whole Year Too Late
Kristi Noem just can't seem to get it right. The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security was filmed in the Oval Office on June 10, 2025 standing alongside President Donald Trump and several other members of his cabinet. Noem, and the rest of the team, addressed the public in a plea to stop Californians from voting for Governor Gavin Newsom. The media message came after heated immigration protests in the state became a topic of global interest. "Gov. Newsom has done a disservice to the state of California for many years," Noem stressed. "The people there should never elect him into a leadership position ever again." However, viewers couldn't focus on her plea because they were too distracted by her outfit.

The Trump staffer was roundly roasted on X, formerly known as Twitter, for two major reasons. First, the state of California has strict terms for its governors, and Newsom cannot run again, so her message was moot. Second, Noem's baby-blue dress, embellished with 3D flowers, was outdated and attention-grabbing for all the wrong reasons. Referring to the supermarket chain, one netizen tweeted: "She is dressed like a Publix decorated cake today, I see."
Others had even more to say. "Love the prom dress vibes she's giving off," one commenter sarcastically added. Someone else similarly joked, "Kristi the fashionista Noem knows how to dress for any occasion. Keeping her bullet proof vest would have been too much." The truth is that the politician has consistently struggled with her public image, and her floral dress was one more example of Noem jumping on a trend after it had already gone out of style.
Kristi Noem's blue dress is yet another example of her falling behind on fashion
Kristi Noem's policies have garnered tons of global scrutiny. The Guardian called her "the made-for-TV official executing Trump's mass deportations," but while Noem's actions as the U.S. secretary of homeland security are understandably causing concern, it's also worth noting that she's considered as someone who's constantly in cosplay (a blended word derived from "costume play"). Essentially, the White House staffer dresses the part of a ferocious Barbie responsible for mass deportation, hence her nickname "ICE Barbie." And while clothing and grooming might seem inconsequential, with Noem, it speaks to her inability to pull off the part she's playing.
The dark aviators, the mega blowouts, the bulletproof vests, and the fake lashes all come together to create a visual of a Halloween costume of a sexy bad cop. Her MAGA transformation, at least externally, is complete — Noem is practically unrecognizable in throwback photos. On top of that, Noem's hair extensions make her look completely different, and thanks to all of her plastic surgery, Noem is a key example of the Mar-A-Lago face plastic surgery trend.
So what do 3D flowers have to do with this? It's a small detail, but a crucial one. The fashion accessory was hugely popular just a few years back, but it quickly became passé. By showcasing it in 2025, Noem exhibited yet another way in which she's hopelessly behind the times. It might not seem like much, relatively speaking, but this dated trend is one more way that the Trump staffer consistently gets it wrong in front of the world.
