8 Of The Worst Celeb Red Carpet Outfits Of 2025 (So Far)

While 2025 has been a year of stellar red carpet looks, there have also been some big flops so far. It's a fine line as to what constitutes a red carpet fail. A look can be too experimental, making it appear garish. Or an ensemble can be underwhelming for the expectation around the event. (Think of the 2025 Met Gala, and what fans expect versus what some celebrities delivered. We'll get into that shortly.) A red carpet outfit can be off color-wise, or the tailoring can appear shoddy. Or, someone can look extremely uncomfortable, and this detracts from the overall splendor of the moment. We're looking at you, Kim Kardashian! At nearly every Met Gala, she looks like she can hardly move. Although, to be fair, Kardashian does have some stunning Met Gala looks, too. 

The 2025 Oscars offered a wide range of looks, with several celebs making it on the worst-dressed list at the Oscars. Zoe Saldaña's experimental dress at this event earned her a place on a grouping of the worst red carpet outfits. Other events in the year captured still more unfortunate choices. The American Music Awards hosted some curious getups, and the Tony's also offered some questionable looks. For all of these stars, we know they're capable of fabulous red carpet moments, so we're chalking up these 2025 fails to human moments. You can't get it right every time!  

It's a strange day when both Dua Lipa and Chanel fail. At the 2025 Met Gala, however, the singer wore a black, Chanel ensemble and the look was a total flop, largely because there was so much going on. The heavily embroidered boucle jacket cut off to reveal geometric paneling at her waist, followed by a feather shirt, followed by a still longer sheer skirt. The whole outfit came off as hectic while still underwhelming at once. 

Kim Kardashian managed to wear yet another outfit to the Met Gala that made it impossible for her to walk. Waddling up the floral carpet, Kardashian exhibited her 2025 Met Gala leather look by Chrome Hearts that featured a heavy, leather train and an off-the-shoulder neckline. She embellished with both pearls and diamonds and finished off the ensemble with a large, strikingly-shaped leather hat. Not only could Kardashian not walk, but she could hardly see thanks to the hat. "Kim loves being uncomfortable," someone wrote on TikTok. "She's always having wardrobe malfunction issues and all the outfits she has worn to the Met Gala look so uncomfortable," another added. It was too restrictive. 

Zoe Saldaña wore a red, three-tiered gown by Saint Laurent to the 2025 Oscars, where she won for Best Supporting Actress in "Emilia Pérez." While Saldaña undoubtedly deserved the win, her dress was much more questionable. The bubble hems added volume to the lower portion of Saldaña's body while the sheer bust panel completely flattened her, making the silhouette an unflattering choice. The sheer opera gloves were a win, though, so there's that. 

Gymnast Jordan Chiles attended the 2025 American Music Awards in a white, strapless gown. The dress in question was from Marine Serre's spring 2025 collection, and wasn't a great choice for the athlete. The upper body of the dress featured an oval cutout crisscrossed by corset-style bands. The dress featured zipper pockets at the waist, with hardware that didn't match the delicate cream fabric. The drop-waist was also an odd design choice, in addition to the wide skirt and bubble hem. It wasn't our favorite look on Chiles. 

It was a blue night for Heidi Montag at the 2025 American Music Awards. The star showed up in what looked like a sexy alien costume, sporting a geometric corset top with tonal, blue slacks that featured a jagged hem. She wore these with black, strappy platform heels and a new, blonde bob. People were not a fan of Montag's look. "Girl, your stylist does NOT have your back," a netizen wrote on Instagram. Others were convinced that Montag was wearing a wig, and a bad wig at that. "They did my girl dirty with that wig," another wrote. Clearly, it was not Montag's best red carpet moment. 

Perhaps one of the most surprising people to see on a worst-dressed list is Katie Holmes. At the 2025 Tony Awards, Holmes made a rare misstep with her red carpet outfit by Prada and Dana Rebecca Designs. The shapeless green top was far too boxy on the star, and the pink, sequin skirt was strangely tailored, coming off as slightly too long on her. There was discord between the two pieces and it seems like Holmes knew it. In photos from the event, she stood with her arms covering her chest, or hanging awkwardly at her side. Either way, her body language reflected that she wasn't feeling it. 

Wynonna Judd attended the 2025 Academy of Country Music awards in an all-black outfit. While the singer, with her engaging smile and incredible hair, typically owns a red carpet, her outfit at this event knocked her onto the worst-dressed list. Judd paired a long blazer with sheer, lace pants and sheer wizard sleeves. While the look was one tone, it still came off as chaotic thanks to the mixing of different fabrics and styles. 

Sarah Snook won a Tony Award in June 2025 for her performance in "The Picture of Dorian Grey." While she's an incredible actor, her red carpet dress left much to be desired. The heavily-textured gown, complete with a turtleneck and long sleeves, seemed like a curious choice for New York City in June, famous for its muggy heat at that time of year. The off-white tone of the dress was also an unfortunate color choice on Snook. Something with a little more vibrancy would have popped on her.
