Despite the drastic way that makeup trends have changed from 2015 to 2025, the power of mascara remains unchallenged. The lash-lengthening product has the potential to accentuate the eyes and round out any eyeshadow look, but the shade of your mascara makes a major difference in your overall appearance, especially when taking eye color into consideration. "If you are tired, [mascara] can certainly help widen your eyes and make you look a bit more alert and more awake, but it depends on what colour you opt for," Nyane, makeup artist and Instagram content creator, exclusively tells Women, noting that gray mascara typically has a dulling effect.

Green-eyed makeup lovers interested in enhancing their irises have a few hues to choose from outside of the classic black, with blue being an example of a color-compatible shade that will work for a lot of people. "Blue mascara is such a statement that makes any eye color pop, which then would make your eyes look much less tired and more fierce," Nyane, owner of Temper Hair, explains. This means you can turn heads with a bold cobalt mascara like Professional Makeup Color Mascara from NYX, or pick up a slightly darker shade, such as the Le 8 Hypnôse Serum-Infused Volumizing Mascara from Lancôme for a slightly more subdued approach. Otherwise, those with green eyes can highlight their earthy irises with brown or green mascaras.

Brown and green mascara will especially suit green-eyed makeup enthusiasts

While colorful lashes have been a trendy addition to over-the-top makeup looks, rest assured, you don't have to commit to rainbow falsies to pick the most complementary mascara shade for your eye color. In fact, Nyane recommends subtle shades of brown mascara as an option for those with green eyes. "I would have to say green eyes look good alongside many colours, but brown mascara really enhances green eyes," the beauty and fashion content creator exclusively tells Women. "It adds an almost camo/khaki look and makes green eyes pop!"

You can also take inspiration from the matcha latte makeup trend by opting for a color-drenched look, with Nyane adding, "Green on green is never a miss, so why not try green mascara too?" While this might feel like an out-there choice, dark green options like Eyeko's Lash Alert Mascara can subtly highlight hazel and green eyes without overpowering a makeup look. Overall, black might feel like a go-to choice when it comes to lash-lengthening products, but there are so many other colors that subtly, greatly enhance green eyes.
