Kylie Jenner's Iconic Reasoning For Her Ever-Evolving Hairstyles

It's no secret that Kylie Jenner has had a major style and beauty transformation, with the LA native's hair evolution being a journey all on its own. She traces her knack for experimental looks back to her teen years, referencing the teal hair and painted brows of the mid-2010s known infamously as her King Kylie look. "Honestly, what I think set everything off is when I cut my hair off when I was 16 and dyed it blue," Jenner told Interview Magazine in 2015. "After that, I just felt so free and wanted to experiment with my look."

Since then, the beauty icon has sported everything from bubblegum-pink tresses to a platinum blonde bob, with the fearless style expression becoming a signature part of her brand. In May 2025, she opened up to Harper's Bazaar about how this translates to Khy, the clothing line she launched in October 2024. "I think that I'm kind of a chameleon with my style; I love to play," Jenner told the outlet. "I've been like that since I was 16. I changed my hair color, like, once a week and cut my hair off and then put a wig on or put extensions in; and I've always switched up my style. It's just a part of who I am, and that definitely bleeds into Khy."

Kylie took to social media to share a styling secret

While Kylie Jenner has had some unfortunate makeup missteps, the fashion icon typically manages to stun with her shiny and voluminous hairstyles no matter what cut or color she's sporting. While extensions and wigs often help create her picture-perfect looks, the social media star took to TikTok to share the styling technique behind her casually undone hairstyle. "We're here to try our best to show you how we get my waves," Jenner said, filming with celebrity hairstylist Cherilyn Farris. The tutorial starts with a blow-out, which precedes clip-in extensions, before Farris breaks down her curling strategy.

"Really, the biggest secret with this is just doing a bunch of different types [of curls] so nothing lays together uniformly," the expert explained, demonstrating classic, top-down, and wand-like curl techniques while using different sized curlers. For the face-framing tresses, Farris recommends changing up the heat tool completely. "Where I see people struggle getting the volume around the part line is usually because you're using a curling iron," she explained, using a straightener to curl Jenner's fringe area. Some casual finger-brushing and a few spritzes of hairspray close out the tutorial, with these blown-out waves being a demystified entry into the star's ever-evolving catalogue of hairstyles.
