Jessica Simpson's Natural Hair Isn't Platinum Blond & We're Stunned

Jessica Simpson may be one of the most famous platinum blonds on the planet — seriously, she even starred in a movie called "Blonde Ambition" — but she wasn't born with super light locks. Shocker, we know. Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed her darker roots at a 2024 Grammy Awards viewing party, but we also saw her surprising natural hair color, in full, in a snap taken when she was 10 years old. The Instagram throwback photo also featured her mom, dad, and sister Ashlee Simpson, and showed the future superstar with dirty blond hair that looked almost brunette. Though Ashlee shot to fame with a very dark mane, her hair was much lighter than her sister's when both sported their natural hues.

So how does Jessica keep her hair so blond? She told InStyle in 2015 that she both gets highlights and uses bleach, also applying treatments to fight back against the telltale signs of hair damage. Jessica's go-to is Milbon Inphenom Hair Treatment. "Despite how often I bleach and highlight my hair, this treatment keeps it healthy. I've been using it for years, and I don't have nearly as many split ends as I should," she said.

Though bright blond may not be Jessica's natural shade, she's brought the color to many of her biggest roles. Some fans were surprised to see the "Use My Heart Against Me" singer rock her signature hue in the 2005 movie "Dukes of Hazzard," as her character Daisy Duke was brunette in the original TV series. "Nobody ever said, 'We want you to have brown hair.' It never even came up ... it was important to modernize it and kind of update it. So it was kind of like re-introducing the character in a way," Jessica explained to IGN.

Jessica Simpson isn't afraid to try new hair colors

Though Jessica Simpson hasn't rocked her natural hair color much since finding fame and has mainly stuck to platinum blond, that doesn't mean she hasn't tried alternative looks. In 2007, she dyed her hair dark brunette and looked drastically different from the bombshell blond we know her to be.

She's also had some fun testing bolder shades via filters. In 2023, she took to her Instagram Stories to share photos of herself with colored tresses. Jessica virtually tried on pink hair (a power move that takes serious commitment), as well as copper and auburn locks. "Should I dye my hair?" she asked her followers, adding a poll to let fans vote on a potential new look (via Daily Mail).

Jessica didn't dye her hair that time, but debuted an "Irresistible" new look two years later. For an appearance on the "American Idol" Season 23 finale in May 2025, the "Sweetest Sin" singer leaned into her dirty blond roots and toned down her locks, serving up another blond shade that is great inspo for our next salon trip. "She was so happy to get a new look and switch it up. She always had a super buttery blonde — this time we wanted something new and youthful," Rita Hazan, the celebrity hair colorist and salon owner who dyed Jessica's cooler-toned tresses, told People. But whether Jessica sticks to her more understated blond hair for a while or tries something altogether different, we have no doubt she can pull it off.
