Emma Stone Looks So Different With Her Natural Hair Color (& No It's Not Red)

Emma Stone, shockingly, isn't a natural redhead. The Oscar winner, known for her iconic red locks in films like "Easy A," "La La Land," and "Crazy, Stupid, Love," is actually a natural blond, just like Amy Adams, who is nearly unrecognizable with her natural hair. And while Stone may have spent most of her Hollywood career with some version of red hair, she does occasionally return to her roots. We have to say, the difference is striking.

Whenever Stone goes back to her natural blond hair, the hue has an entirely different effect on her appearance. Despite how amazingly well she pulls off being a redhead, some fans think she looks even better as a blond. In a Reddit post asking people which hair color the actor looked best in, one Redditor said, "Unpopular opinion, but she looks worst as a redhead because she has a very pinkish/reddish undertone and it brings it out too much. I honestly preferred her most as a blond."

Undertones are one important thing to look for when finding your perfect hair color match. Stone's natural blond hair brings her pinkish and reddish undertones down a notch, and her facial features become more gentle, with a softer glowy look. The blond hair almost gives the actor an ethereal look and makes her appear a lot younger than she actually is. Her natural hair color is a more understated, subtle way to bring out the best of her features.

Her hair colorist loves her as a redhead, and it's easy to see why

If there's anyone who pulls off a warm, coppery shade of red hair, it has to be Emma Stone. The vibrant color makes her fair porcelain skin really pop and draws attention to her striking green eyes. The "Kinds of Kindness" star even told U.K. Vogue she often prefers red hair to her natural blond color.

Stone's hair colorist, Tracey Cunningham, told Refinery 29 that "[O]ne of the biggest reasons why Emma's hair looks so incredible is because she looks like a redhead." The colorist also let fans in on a secret as to why the actor pulls off red so well: most of Emma Stone's family are actually natural redheads. "I think there's something about those genetics that make the red shade look so gorgeous with her skin tone and her eyes — it's just a look that she can pull off exquisitely," Cunningham added.

The famous colorist also had some tips for coloring your own hair. Cunningham emphasized that there are two things to know: no two hair colors are the same and everyone has different starting points. You can get Emma Stone's iconic red hair, but Cunningham said "the technique will have to be tailored to the individual." Also, she warned, "Drastically flip-flopping your color to different ends of the color spectrum is the worst thing you can do for your hair." It's important to take it in incremental steps and look out for the telltale signs you're dealing with hair damage
