When you think of Sophie Turner's hair, you probably imagine the iconic, deep red locks she sported while playing Sansa Stark on "Game of Thrones." But what if we told you her most famous hue isn't her natural hair color? Though the actor continued to rock red for a little while after the HBO show ended, shockingly, she's actually a natural blond.
The beauty proved that with a super cute, throwback Instagram photo that showed her during her school days with blond locks. The youngster's hair was a beautiful light gold shade with plenty of shine and it was styled into youthful double braids. The British star shared how much she loves her natural color while speaking to Refinery29, admitting, "My blond hair gives me a new identity that's actually me. I feel more at-home when I come back to my blond hair; it also makes me feel a bit cooler and edgier."
Much like Leighton Meester, who looks unrecognizable without her signature hair color, Turner gave up her natural blond for a role. She told Marie Claire her darker tresses happened because of "Game of Thrones." "I'm naturally blond, so [right now] this is like fading auburn. I like the auburn," she said. She also told Refinery29 she was using a semi-permanent dye twice a week to get Sansa's bold tone, which took its toll on her locks to the point she had to wear a wig while shooting. "When I got back from the salon, I was brushing my hair, and it was coming right out. It was awful. When I went back to 'Game of Thrones,' the [stylists] said, 'I don't know if we can dye it, it might ruin your hair. It's in such bad condition.' So, I wore a wig," she shared.
Sophie Turner has some tips for those looking to dye their hair
After learning the hard way that hair dyes can cause damage, Sophie Turner had some advice for anyone looking to change the color of their natural hair (there's a lot to know before dying your hair for the very first time, too). "Have it done professionally, have aftercare for your hair once it's been dyed, and ask for Wella hair dye. If you dye your hair, your hair will always end up being so dry, and if you use Koleston Perfect, it's like nothing ever happened to your hair," she told Refinery29. The star also shared some of her favorite products with Glamour, including Wella Professionals Fusion Intense Repair Shampoo and Wella Professionals Fusion Intense Repair Conditioner. Thankfully, the actor managed to get her mane looking healthy again and she returned to blond after "Game of Thrones" ended, which contributed to Turner stepping up her style game post her divorce from Joe Jonas.
But even though Turner veered closer to her childhood hue when she had full autonomy over her tresses again, that doesn't mean she's not willing to try another drastic change. In 2018, she teased plenty of ideas for a new 'do. "I would definitely consider dyeing my hair brunette or something crazier like a bright pink," she said. Considering how well Turner can pull off both red and blond, we have no doubt she'd slay with power move pink hair, despite the commitment.
