Kaitlan Collins' Chevron Look Reminds Us Why This Outdated Trend Should Stay In The 2010s

Kaitlan Collins doesn't often miss when it comes to workplace fashion, but in early 2025 she sported a chevron top that gave us all kinds of throwback vibes. The CNN news anchor and White House correspondent typically gets rave reviews when it comes to her outfits, even on the occasions when Collins sports some spicy choices. Collins became the youngest chief White House correspondent in CNN's history when she was appointed in 2021 at age 28, and she walks the fine fashion line of appropriate yet fresh for her job.

It's rare for Collins to make a blunder, but she has. In May 2025, she shared a photo to her Instagram stories where she stood with two other gentlemen on the White House grounds. Collins wore black slacks and a black and white sleeveless top in chevron print. The chevron pattern, made up of geometric zig-zags, was huge back in the 2010s but has not made a comeback. Back then, the pattern blew up so much that there was major overexposure, and no one's gone for chevron since. It's the one breaking story that Collins may have missed.

Kaitlan Collins took the position of chief White House correspondent for CNN during President Donald Trump's second term in office. Since then, she's made a splash with her sassy remarks — Trump called her a "nasty person" on stage because Collins was pressing him — and her polished, stylish apparel. The chevron shirt was a rare exception for the otherwise stylish Collins, which is why it surprised us.

Still, others in and around the White House seem to really struggle with finding clothing that's both sophisticated and politically professional. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has worn many outfits that have missed the mark. Former press secretary, now governor of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders is another person who is constantly wearing outdated trends. Trump's second term in the White House seems to precipitate fashion fails. 

When it comes to Collins, she can usually change that sartorial tone. On March 16, 2025, she shared a photo to Instagram of her black, strapless evening dress, and her look was contemporary yet elegant. "You have the most beautiful clothes! Your suits are to die for," one fan wrote, referencing Collin's workplace fashion. "Elegant, sophisticated, gorgeous, and intelligent," another person added. "Love you and what you are doing in your reporting, and btw you have great style too Kaitlin," a third wrote. Clearly, this fashion fail was an outlier.
