We can't fault book enthusiasts for associating Reese's Book Club with fiction, since many of the best Reese Witherspoon picks of the 2020s fall into the genre. Big screen-adapted titles like Delia Owens' "Where The Crawdads Sing" and Taylor Jenkin Reid's "Daisy Jones and the Six" continue to reign as some of the reading group's most popular picks. Even so, Witherspoon's book club has had some great nonfiction selections over the years, ranging from feminist-focused memoirs to moving essay collections.

Among these titles, "We Will Be Jaguars: A Memoir of My People," by activist Nemonte Nenquimo, ranks as the highest rated, averaging 4.49 stars on Goodreads at the time of this writing. While it's not the most read of the Reese's Book Club picks, with fewer than 5,000 ratings, the indigenous culture-centered memoir is extremely well-received among its pool of readers. If you're looking for your next nonfiction read, this beautiful story of nature, culture, and activism is definitely deserving of a spot on your TBR.

Selected for Reese's Book Club in January 2025, "We Will Be Jaguars" is a gripping memoir centered around the Waorani tribe, located in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador, and their fight for cultural preservation and against climate change. Nenquimo chronicles her unique childhood growing up deep in the Amazon, learning the traditions and skills of her ancestors while living alongside evangelical missionaries. After Nenquimo leaves her village for a year to receive formal schooling as a young teen, she returns to discover the destructive presence of oil companies and rallies with other indigenous communities to defend the land of her people.
