Taylor Swift's Style Transformation Since She Began Dating Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift's style has evolved a lot since summer 2023, when she started her winning relationship with Travis Kelce. Not only have we seen her adopt the Kansas City Chiefs' iconic red into her game day wardrobe, but she's also gravitated more towards bold, branded designer pieces.
There's nothing wrong with giving your wardrobe an upgrade when you get into a new relationship. In fact, it can be a good sign. "Once you're in a budding relationship, your fashion choices change due to mutual influence, subconscious attraction, and a longing desire to impress the one you love," Peter Martinez, co-founder and fashion designer at Leather Skin Shop, exclusively explained to Women. "It strengthens your bond and gives you more reasons to spend time together."
A slight style shift happens to most of us, since it's only natural for your partner to introduce you to new brands, aesthetics, and styles you may not have been exposed to before. With that in mind, we're taking a closer look at Swift's fashion era inspired by her lover.
Taylor Swift promoted Travis Kelce's podcast with an out-of-character baseball cap
In the years before Taylor Swift began dating Travis Kelce, we mostly saw her in traditionally feminine looks. Her go-tos included flirty dresses, cute flats, and comfy cardigans. But when the duo attended Coachella in April 2024, those garments were nowhere to be seen. Instead, the superstar wore a green top, black skirt (or shorts), leather-look biker jacket, and black sneakers, with a cross-body Stella McCartney bag. But it was her baseball cap that really got attention. It was merchandise from "New Heights," Kelce's podcast, so was emblazoned with the logo. Prior to that, Swift had mainly worn caps as part of her super casual street style looks, and we certainly hadn't seen her sporting podcast logos before.
She's open to coordinating outfits
Since we rarely saw Taylor Swift and her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn together during their six-year romance, coordinating outfits in public were an absolute no-go. With Travis Kelce, though? Swift's clearly open to the idea. In October 2023, she wore a red Chiefs sweatshirt that matched his red and beige flannel shirt, as they posed with Kelce's teammate Mecole Hardman Jr. and his partner Chariah Gordon.
The couple matched again in June 2024 when they both sported crochet outfits while out in London. According to stylist Peter Martinez, that could be due to their closeness. "The matchy matchy look really inspires me, portraying the undying affinity of those couples," he exclusively told Women. "However, it's important to maintain a balance between a couple's style and individual expression, and never to lose one's personal style completely."
Taylor Swift adopted athletic looks to watch her boyfriend play
Taylor Swift leaned into the sporty aesthetic after going public with her relationship with Travis Kelce. She's worn multiple athletic-inspired pieces to support the Kansas City Chiefs, including her bespoke red puffer jacket designed by Kristin Juszczyk and the vintage sweater she rocked when the Chiefs took on the Buffalo Bills in December 2023.
While those looks were clearly influenced by Kelce, Swift, in turn, influenced countless fans to embrace the Sporty Spice athletic fashion trend. "I've seen more football pendant necklaces and game day earrings showing up," stylist Shea Daspin told Independent in February 2024. "All these details are really becoming popular, just because this superstar has entered the arena."
She chose more obviously branded clothing
Taylor Swift has long been a fan of pricey designers, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But when she started dating Travis Kelce, she seemed to go that extra mile with branded clothing. Swift wore a tan monogrammed Gucci dress with a brown coat and peep toe heels when she and Kelce were spotted in New York City in September 2024, hours after Kelce rocked a Gucci bucket hat for the US Open. The logo-sporting pair's outfits were so brash, Daily Mail dubbed the duo "the Gucci gang."
Taylor Swift's worn more sophisticated looks while dating Travis Kelce
"[Taylor] Swift has added more polished, sophisticated pieces into her wardrobe," stylist Peter Martinez exclusively told Women of her Travis Kelce-era style. And we've certainly seen that. The two got serious quickly – Radar Online claimed in July 2024 that they have supposedly spoken about marriage — so it makes sense why Swift has gravitated toward grown-up pieces. While out in New York in January 2024, she gave us one of her best street style outfits of the year in a sophisticated brown coat, green dress, and knee-high black boots. The ensemble was refined and elegant, reflecting her transition into her mid-30s in a serious relationship.
