Natural Feathered Brows Are Going To Be Your Go-To Look For Summer 2024

The past few years have been up and down for our eyebrows, but now, thanks in part to trendsetter Hailey Bieber, we're ushering in a new era that's hopefully gonna give our face frames a bit of a break. Say hello to the feathered brow look — which is a major eyebrow trend for summer 2024. Requiring the absolute bare minimum product and effort, the look is essentially a no-makeup makeup take on brows, which is ideal for anyone who appreciates a more basic, natural face.

As makeup artist/brow expert Robin Evans confirmed to Byrdie, all that precise effort to make our eyebrows look perfectly manicured is over. "We're no longer over-filling in with color brow cosmetics, especially for summer, but focusing on a healthy, fluffy, feathered, multidimensional yet minimal brow style and look," they explained to the outlet. In other words, we can officially forget about all that difficult busy work like brow contouring, drawing heavy lines, and trying to create a gradient effect. Instead, it's all about embracing how your actual hair looks on its own.

How to get natural feathered brows

While a custom eyebrow lamination is the easiest way to guarantee you wake up everyday with full, fluffy brows, you don't need to spend a ton of money to get the feathered look. A basic spoolie brush and eyebrow gel can help you achieve the same effect.

Begin by taking your comb or spoolie to separate the hairs. Try to resist the temptation to brush the hairs straight upwards, as this won't look natural. Instead, imagine your face is a compass. You'll want to push the brush in northwest direction so the hairs sit diagonally. The idea is to create a serrated-looking edge, similar to the side of a feather (hence the name). Depending on how long your brow hairs are, you may need to use small scissors to trim them.

Now that your brows are at their fluffiest, it's time to bring out a clear brow gel. Unlike a tinted pomade, this will create a more subtle, natural-looking effect without making your brows look too 'done.' If you feel your eyebrows need a little extra boost of volume, celebrity makeup artist Renée Loiz recommended to Byrdie that you use a product in a color one shade lighter than the hair on your head. Use the gel to set the hairs in place how you like them. Gently dab the product on using your finger so it stays in place. And that's all there is to it. Didn't we say it was nice and easy?

You can still get natural feathered brows if you don't have a lot of brow hair

We totally get it, not everyone has a lot of hair to work with in the eyebrow area. But don't think you can't still take part in natural feathered brows. Though the trend is all about a more natural finish, that doesn't necessarily mean you can't still use another of your favorite brow products to give that more feathered appearance if you need to. It's totally okay to fill in the brows a little with a brow pencil before applying a gel, just as long as you don't overdo it. An eyebrow pencil is good for this look over something like a heavy, thick pomade, because it will be more subtle.

If you learned about carving out the brows when that was a trend, you'll want to forget about that now. Instead, focus on light swipes of the pencil in motions that mimic the hairs. Only do this in the spaces you need it. Don't think you have to fill in every single centimetre, as it's perfectly okay with the summer 2024 natural feathered brows trend to see a little skin through the hairs. Then, finish with your brow gel and one final swipe through with the spoolie to get rid of excess product. And then go forth and flash those feathered br-wows!
