Blue Velvet Nails Are The Icy Glam Manicure Trend For Winter 2024

If you're not ready to let go of your blue chrome nails, get ready for the next evolution of shiny, cool-toned manicures: blue velvet nails. Unlike typical glitter nails, which have larger flecks of sparkle, this fabric-inspired design relies on using a magnetic polish to create a softer, blended shimmer. When combined with a pretty shade like periwinkle or azure, it's just right for cold weather looks. Content-creator manicurist Sarah Haidar agrees. "It's so perfect for winter. I like that it's not a chunky glitter, but more fuzzy-looking and soft," the Instagram and Pinterest famous manicure lover explained to Refinery29.

The trend is somewhat similar to the cashmere nail trend we saw in fall 2023, but a little bit less cozy, and more colorful.

And best of all, there are plenty of ways to get creative with this concept. If you need a touch of inspiration, we've got you covered.

Light blue velvet nails are the iciest version

If you really want to go for the icy glam look with your blue velvet nails, then a super pale blue shade is the way to go. This version really harps on the winter vibe with an almost silvery white shimmer. This look is great for those who prefer a lighter shade on their nails that will transition easily into spring.

Try blue velvet with extra nail art lines

You don't have to limit yourself to one color with the blue velvet nail trend to pack a punch. For a more unique twist on the idea, add matte pink swirls on top of a dark, teal blue velvet nail base. The contrasting colors really makes the shimmer pop, while the swirling design gives it an artsy vibe.

Really bring home the wintery theme

As we know, blue velvet nails are a winter staple. So why not take that aesthetic one step further? A few painted white snowflakes or snowflake stickers over the top is fun and "Frozen"-esque at the same time. You could also try white polka dots for a slightly easier, snowy theme. Add in jewel adhesives to draw the attention to your design.

Blue velvet tips are super chic too

If you're a fan of a french manicure, can also incorporate the deep French tips look into your blue velvet style. Instead of nude pink, use a purple as your base. Then, apply a dark blue, aquamarine color to the edges. The end result is elegant, yet futuristic glam.

Be the star of the show with metallic nail art

With how much blue velvet reminds us of old Hollywood, it makes sense to have a star-studded manicure (literally.) The metallic silver beautifully anchors the bright, shimmery blue, while making it playful and fun. Although we can't deny the appeal of the stars, you can literally choose any shape you want, from hearts, to swirls and everything in between.

Subtle line work puts an understated spin on velvet nails

You don't have to create super intricate designs to elevate your blue velvet nail aesthetic. A few simple swoops of silver and white from the base form an understated, yet sophisticated look reminiscent of a wintery painting. If you did want a little more drama, you could try it with a more vibrant color, like cerulean.
