How a Bra Helped Me Get Over a Recent Breakup
The support I needed!
I've never been very good at dealing with breakups.
After I'm ultimately dumped (because that tends to be how it always works out), I shut myself off from the rest of the world to wallow in self-pity for at least six months, questioning why I'm unlovable and ultimately coming to the realization that I will be alone forever.
My most recent breakup, however, didn't force me to spiral down this dark path—and that's thanks in large part to a new addition to my support system. No, not a friend or a pet, but rather a bra from Max & Vera.
I know what you're thinking, I sound crazy. How could a measly undergarment help piece together my broken heart? Well, dear reader, you're about to find out.
Let's first go back, back to the beginning, to a time before my relationship came crumbling down.
We had been friends for a few months before finally confessing our feelings for one another. Our short-lived romance started off on a positive note, only strengthening from there... until one day, it slowly started to crumble around me.
I could sense him pulling away, as this was the course of most of my past relationships, but when you go into things with rose-colored glasses on, it's pretty hard to take them off no matter what happens.
Even though I knew he was done with me long before he did, I still waited for him to end it all. When he finally ripped the band-aid off, my world shattered.
Once again, I was made a fool; once again, I was left to pick up the pieces; and once again, I felt as though I would never know what love is. What I didn't know, was that I would have something up my sleeve (on my chest?) to remind me who I am. Let's discuss this wonder bra, shall we?
I discovered Max & Vera the same way everyone discovers unique and local style brands these days—Instagram.
While scrolling through my feed, I stumbled upon a post for their crystal bras. As someone who hordes crystals like it's both their full-time gig and side hustle, their lingerie is right up my alley. I mean, how could I pass up a bra that has an attachment for your crystals? It's like it was made for me. So, I quickly reached out to the company to see if they'd send me a bra to try. Sure enough, they did.
As luck would have it, the bra arrived a few days after my breakup with a truly fitting crystal attached to it—rose quartz.
This healing crystal happens to be known as the love stone, emitting a strong vibration of unconditional love, joy, and healing. Most people assume this means it'll lead you to the love of your life or strengthen your bond with your partner. While it can do that, rose quartz is also a gem to enhance self-love—something someone who's prone to being brokenhearted needs a whole lot of.
From the moment I strapped that puppy on, I felt an overwhelming sense of assurance. I knew that everything was going to be okay and I would move on.
It was definitely strange when I felt that way, because I have never bounced back so quickly from a breakup before. Again, I'm the type to cry for days on end, ignoring all my responsibilities in favor of figuring out how to make my ex fall back in love with me. Those feelings fell by the wayside the second I put this bra on.
I didn't want to fix myself for someone who clearly didn't want me. This time, I wanted to improve my relationship with me, myself, and I. Having the crystal on me at all times definitely helped me with that.
Was it placebo? Maybe, but I don't think it was a coincidence that I received a bra with a rose quartz crystal attached to it.
And even if it wasn't solely the stone that gave me the strength I needed to pick myself up off the floor and start anew, it did remind me to always put my relationship with myself first.
I'm a relatively confident person, except for when it comes to my love life. I'm so desperate to make it work with someone that I mold myself into what they want, before asking myself if being with them is something I even want.
Who would've thought that a bra would put those things in perspective for me?
