Olivia Colman's Long Gray Curls Perfectly Flatter Her Face Shape — How To Recreate It At The Salon
Actor Olivia Colman mixed up her signature beauty look during her press tour for "Wicker", swapping her cropped brunette pixie cut for much longer curls to showcase her evolving silver hair color. Her soft, natural texture highlighted the new medium-toned gray beautifully. "I think this choice was done perfectly," Stephanie Angelone, a master hair stylist at RPZL Hair Extension & Blowout Bar in New York City, tells Women, exclusively. "It looks natural but still classy."
Colman's new hair is part of a larger emerging trend, with plenty of celebrities embracing their graying natural hair and older women ditching outdated expectations about how they should style it. "We are seeing more and more women embracing length and gray as they age," explains Angelone. "[It] shows you're aging timelessly and not trying too hard to be young."
If you're interested in recreating this look, the best way to do so is by asking your stylist for extensions to add volume and length. "This will give you the most natural-looking style," says Angelone, who recommends extensions that blend with your natural texture and gray color. "Clip-ins like RPZL Human Hair Clip Ins are an easy, noncommittal choice, especially for events."
Olivia Colman proves older women shouldn't feel pressured to chop their hair
Some women feel that short, crisp bobs lend a sense of structure to their features as they age. Hair texture and volume typically change as a person gets older, which also explains why so many women opt to crop their hair as time goes on. But there are plenty of haircuts that perfectly flatter gray hair besides a pixie cut or a bob. "Times have changed so much, just because you're aging doesn't mean your hair has to too," Stephanie Angelone, a master hair stylist at RPZL Hair Extension & Blowout Bar in New York City, tells Women exclusively.
Olivia Colman's gorgeous hair is a testament to just how elegant longer styles can look on women with gray locks. "I've seen women in their late 70s with the most stunning heads of hair — pure white, or salt and pepper — and they look intensely beautiful," celebrity stylist Candice Birns told Fashion Magazine in 2015. Just don't be surprised if embracing your gorgeous gray hair means you'll need to overhaul your personal style to properly complement it.
