Carrie Underwood Returns To Blond With A 'Beautiful Balance' Of Champagne Tones
Carrie Underwood and blond go together like, in her own words, "denim and rhinestones." It's safe to say all feels right in the country music world again now that the "American Idol" winner-turned-judge is back to her signature gold-toned hair after a brief experiment with brunette. That was clear when she showed off her new 'do at "CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton" on October 21, where she performed a tribute to the fellow blond and late country music legend. "[It's] a dimensional beige blond with soft honey and champagne tones," Alyssa Black, stylist at Eric Marshall Salon in Nashville, Tennessee, tells Women.com exclusively. "It's a beautiful balance of warmth, brightness, and natural depth that creates a soft, luxurious finish."
Black shares that Underwood's latest shade is so complimentary because it's a soft blend of multiple hues. "The mix of beige, honey, champagne, and deeper natural tones creates dimension and movement, keeping the blond from looking flat or too solid," she says. "It's all about finding the perfect balance between lightness, warmth, and depth," she adds. As champagne blond has neutral/lightly warm tones, it's particularly flattering on those with neutral or warm undertones, like Underwood (who's undergone a major transformation since her original "Idol" days).
Though the Grammy winner is most famous for her brighter locks, in August 2025, Underwood had a natural hair color makeover and debuted slightly darker tresses. She shared an Instagram snap showing her with warm, not quite blond, not quite brunette, locks that felt a little more natural and earthy. "Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance," she captioned a selfie.
How to copy Carrie Underwood's multi-dimensional champagne blond
If Carrie Underwood's hair has inspired you, we've got the deets on how to copy her look and leave your friends "Blown Away." The best way to transition into this multi-dimensional shade will depend on your present color. "If you're currently a bright blond with very little dimension, I would recommend asking your stylist about adding a full head of lowlights and a soft shadow root to bring back depth and blend your natural root into the rest of your hair," Alyssa Black tells us, exclusively. "Finishing with a beige toner can help create that soft, dimensional beige blond," she adds.
For those with darker hair, Black suggests adding babylights and highlights (which are different to balayage, remember). "[This will] gradually brighten the hair while preserving some of your natural dimension. A honey-beige blond gloss can help achieve that beautiful, warm, creamy finish," Black says. She also recommends taking a photo of Underwood's locks to your stylist as inspo, which makes sense considering being as specific as possible about your desired look is a salon etiquette rule everybody should know. If the move to champagne blond is a major hair change for you, consider booking a consultation prior to your appointment too. That will allow your stylist to set expectations and provide personalized advice tailored to your current hair color and its condition.
