Makeup has gone through a lot of changes throughout the years. Modern makeup formulations are kinder to our skin and glide on like butter, not to mention there is now a range of shades made to flatter a variety of skin tones. However, while choosing a blush color may seem simple, selecting the right lip shade to complement it might be just as important.

We sat down with professional makeup artist and licensed esthetician Jade Griffin about what makes a lip and blush combo look great together. "The secret to ensuring your lip color coordinates with your blush is making sure the tones and undertones are all in the same family," she exclusively shared with us. As such, here are the top trending lip and blush combos that should be on your radar.

Nothing speaks quite like a red lip and red blush combo

According to Jade Griffin, matching your lip and blush color isn't a must. However, when it comes to red blush and a red lip, there's no denying that the combination works. Not only is it one of the best ways to bring a pop of red into your makeup looks, but it's also nothing to be intimidated by. "[Red lipstick with red blush] creates a beautiful, monochromatic look that feels bold but still cohesive," she said. As Dutch model Romee Strijd's makeup shows, red on red is a great combination.

You can never go wrong with an orange blush and nude lip

There's a reason why orange blush should be in your makeup routine right now. Pair it with a nude lip, and it's downright fabulous. Alongside being one of the most wearable combos on this list, orange blush makes you look like a sunset dream, while the nude lip accentuates the blush and gives your face a little bit of structure. "A nude lip paired with a warm orange or tangerine-toned blush adds warmth and definition to the face," Jade Griffin tells Women exclusively.

Soft purple blush and a red lip make for a lethal combination

Although Jade Griffin warns against certain color combinations such as red and purple, that doesn't mean you can't play around with the intensity and undertone of either shade. Pairing a vivid red with a soft, light purple blush is an irresistible combination on most skin tones. "Purple blush is giving us that modern, almost editorial twist without being over the top," makeup artist-to-the-stars Lisa Aharon told Marie Claire. And with light purple looking almost pink on pale skin, it's the perfect chance to play with this unique shade and add it to your makeup kit.

Opt for peachy orange to grace your lip and cheek

While these two shades flatter many skin tones, it's a particularly killer combination for darker skin. Best of all, it's a makeup look you can wear daily without looking as if you've done too much. "When I wear this combination, it makes my skin look sunkissed and almost lit from within," makeup artist Jonet Williamson shared with Byrdie. It's definitely the first step to trying the stunning sunset blush trend for yourself. After all, who wouldn't want to look as if they've bathed in sunlight?

Brown blush and lips is an essential look to try

Another hit for darker skin tones: a brown blush and lip combo. Brown blushes might seem daunting at first,  but they can potentially save you money by acting as a multi-tasking product. "Using brown blush is all about enhancing your natural warmth, adding subtle dimension, and sometimes even replacing bronzer or contour altogether," professional makeup artist Deney Adam told Marie Claire. What's more, this brown lip and blush combo would certainly call back to some iconic '90s makeup trends while making you look timeless and modern.

For a sweet touch, go for nude lips and a dusky rose blush

One of the easiest looks to pull off is a nude lip paired with a dusky rose blush. You can wear this look for formal and casual occasions. It not only leaves you looking healthy and alive, but it also softens your whole makeup look. You can apply a hint of this blush over the nose, which is a popular TikTok makeup trend from 2022 that works wonders with this combo.

Stand out in black cherry and pink-red blush

Although highlighting wearable neutrals and pinks is crucial, it's also important to step out of the box and explore unconventional color combos. You're sure to turn heads and stand out from the crowd with a delectable black cherry lip and bright, pinkish-red blush. While oxblood lips were trending in 2025, there's no harm in bringing back what's already worked in the past. It's a look perfect for clubs and other glitzy events, proving there's a perfect lip and blush combo for every occasion.
