The Best Fall Manicure Colors For Olive Skin Tones
For olive-skinned ladies, the struggle is real. They may know how important it is to use color theory to tailor makeup to their skin tone, but it can be tricky when so many brands categorize colors as warm, cool, or neutral, and olive undertones aren't so neatly classified. Some brands offer specific olive shades, but that doesn't help when choosing colors for your clothes or nails.
"Your skin tone and undertone can completely change how a nail color looks," Viktoriia Voloshyna, award-winning nail artist and educator and Los Angeles' Nail Artist of the Year 2026, exclusively tells Women.com. Vikki Swan, award-winning nail educator, international nail competition judge, and founder of Vikki Swan Nail Academy in Los Angeles, agrees. "For example, the same nude shade might look beautiful on one person but completely different on someone else," she explains exclusively to Women.com.
It's hard enough, then, to choose a nail color that complements olive skin tones, but what if you also want a shade that evokes the current season? All that cross-referencing can make you cross-eyed. Fortunately, our experts clued us in to the best fall manicure colors for olive skin tones.
Cherry cola
Luckily for olive girls, one of the colors Vikki Swan named best for them for fall is also one of her favorite fall colors for all skin tones: cherry cola. What makes this spicy brown with a hint of deep red such an ideal shade for the greener among us? "The combination of red and brown creates a beautiful contrast against olive skin, bringing out its natural warmth," she exclusively tells Women.com. "I especially love this color with a high-gloss finish."
That contrast is important because, as Viktoriia Voloshyna further explains, "The finish, depth of the shade, and the contrast you want are just as important as the color itself" when choosing a nail color for your skin tone. Cherry cola is also the perfect end-of-fall manicure color to seamlessly transition to winter, so it's got you covered for several months of the year, not just in the fall.
Chocolate or truffle brown
As the neutral to end all neutrals, brown looks good on just about anybody. The trick is choosing the right depth and undertone, and with olive skin in the fall, that means dark and warm, according to our experts. "Deep chocolate shades with neutral or slightly warm undertones look beautiful against olive skin," Vikki Swan tells Women.com exclusively. Just how deep are we talking exactly? "I would recommend choosing a brown that's a little deeper than your natural skin tone so the color stands out rather than blending in," she continues.
Viktoriia Voloshyna goes even further, advising those with olive skin tones to select a nearly black truffle brown shade. "A warm truffle brown brings out the warmth in olive skin and feels especially polished for fall," she tells Women.com. "It is softer than black but still gives the manicure plenty of depth." Olive goths, rejoice!
Emerald or olive green
Of course, what better shade is there for olive skin than olive? "Olive green can create a very chic tonal look on olive skin," Viktoriia Voloshyna tells Women.com exclusively, and it pairs beautifully with a fall wardrobe. That doesn't mean you can't still go green if your fall look is more gemstone than foliage. Vikki Swan exclusively points out to Women.com that emerald green is "a beautiful alternative to traditional fall shades. The cool tones in deep emerald green create a nice contrast against the warmth of olive skin."
There are still other things to consider when it comes to green on green, however. "I would choose a shade that is noticeably deeper or lighter than the skin tone so the manicure still stands out," Voloshyna advises, while Swan emphasizes the importance of finish. "[Add] a glossy finish or a subtle cat-eye effect for extra depth," she says.
Deep teal
We know what you're thinking. Teal? Isn't that a shade for the spring or summer? That's where the importance of depth comes in again. With its blue and green tones, it's a happy medium between chill and warmth, a must for olive skin.
"Deep teal looks beautiful on olive skin because the balance of blue and green complements the natural undertone without blending into it," Viktoriia Voloshyna exclusively complains to Women.com. "It feels rich and sophisticated while still giving the skin a fresh contrast." Just keep it nice and dark, and it'll give way more moody fall vibes than splashy summer ones.
Besides, as Vikki Swan exclusively tells Women.com, "I don't believe in strict rules. Almost any color can work if you find the right undertone and depth for your skin." Voloshyna agrees. When it comes to fall, "classic red, burgundy, chocolate brown, black, and gold can look beautiful on almost every skin tone," she says.
