Joan Collins' Chic Mother-Of-The-Groom Look Was In The Perfect Sophisticated Color
Dame Joan Collins has had much to celebrate. She has one of the most enduring careers in Hollywood, having started back in the '50s and continuing to star in films like 2026's "A Murder Between Friends" and the highly anticipated biopic "My Duchess." But Collins has far more than career achievements to be happy about, as her son, Alexander Newley, got married in September 2025. For the occasion, the six-time Golden Globe nominee wore a mother-of-the-groom outfit that turned heads for its chic, elegant color.
It's clear Collins has a good eye for trendy, yet elegant looks. Beaming beside her husband of 24 years, Percy Gibson, she stole the show in a tailored caped dress in pastel blue; a color that was reportedly huge in wedding fashion that year. She paired the outfit with a matching hat and beige pumps, as well as a pair of pearl studs and a bejeweled watch for accessories. Similar to how Pamela Anderson gave us a mother-of-the-groom outfit that's perfect for older women, the "Dynasty" star has nailed an ideal combination of sophistication, class, and style that women over 50 can easily emulate. And it's not the first time she pulled off a fashion moment in such a dazzling blue.
Joan Collins has always been the queen of rocking soft blue tones
Long before her mother-of-the-groom look, Dame Joan Collins has had plenty of experience wearing soft pastels for big occasions. In 2024, the "Land of the Pharaohs" star posed for a cover of Harper's Bazaar Arabia, wearing a light sky blue dress covered in flower-shaped tulle. That same year, she appeared at the Emmys wearing a shimmering ice blue gown.
While the aforementioned dresses were designed by Reem Kachmar Couture and Jenny Packham, respectively, the designer of her mother-of-the-groom dress remains unknown. However, here's a chance that the Golden Globe winner might have had a hand it its creation, given her track record of creating her own clothes.
"Everybody who knows me knows that I design most of my clothes," Collins proudly revealed in an exclusive interview with Hello!. She added that she had even shared her creative input with "Dynasty" costume designer Nolan Miller, showing how she is a dab hand at picking the right colors and cuts for herself. Whether or not this means she designed her blue dress for her son's wedding remains to be determined, but one thing is clear: she's proof that frumpy mother-of-the-groom looks are a thing of the past.
