Reba McEntire's Mother-Of-The-Groom Style Perfectly Complemented Her Personality

Reba McEntire would never turn her nose up at a good ol' pair of cowboy boots, but she certainly knows how to dress up if the occasion calls for something a bit fancier. Although McEntire has worn some spicy outfits over the years, she admits she can never surrender her personal style philosophy: "One thing that hasn't changed for me is comfort. I gotta have it," she once told Country Living. And the "Can't Even Get the Blues" hitmaker proved this to be true with the outfit she chose to wear to her son Shelby Blackstock's wedding to his long-time partner, Marissa Branch, back in February 2022.

For the occasion, McEntire selected a long sleeve black gown that appeared to be made with a soft, comfortable fabric. While the outfit was undeniably understated, the three-time Grammy winner added a touch of glam with a black fur stole that she wore around her shoulders. She completed the look with a pair of silver hoop earrings and a black manicure to match.

McEntire no doubt looked radiant, but she also made the wise choice prioritizing function over fashion. In one festive clip from the evening, the country icon can be seen having the time of her life as she belted out her song "Fancy" while moving about with ease in her flowing dress. It seemed McEntire found the perfect mother-of-the-groom gown to her down-to-earth personality and style creed to a T, though it took her some time to find her footing when it comes to fashion.

For Reba McEntire, finding the sweet spot between style and comfort was a journey

Although Reba McEntire clearly prioritizes comfort in her formal wear, she also appreciates a hefty amount of style in them as well. This is something she gradually discovered was possible after she shot to fame in the '90s, pulling away from her usual fashion template of cowboy outfits that dominated her career in the late '70s to the '80s. Throughout her years-long partnership with close friend and designer Sandi Spika Borchetta, the 18-time Grammy nominee underwent a style transformation that happened in tandem with Reba McEntire's gorgeous hair transformation.

This culminated in one of the most iconic and alluring dresses in McEntire's career. For a 1993 CMA performance,  McEntire wore a red dress with a daring, plunging neckline and a rhinestone-studded bodice. This shows that while she loves her jeans and cowboy boots, she's never minded sacrificing comfort for a bit of pizzazz. "I'm like Dolly [Parton]," she later admitted in a 2016 exclusive with People. "I love sparkle and shine all day long!"

And the veteran show-woman found a way to combine her love for both high glam and comfort. She pulled out the red dress to wear again on the red carpet in 2018, but in an unexpected twist. That time around, she proudly showed off a pair of fuzzy red house slippers as her choice footwear for the evening. Clearly, McEntire is never not herself when it comes to her style moments, and we love her for it. Though it remains unclear what shoes she wore to her son's 2022 wedding, we can safely assume they were comfortable enough to let her groove.
