What Rhaenyra Targaryen From House Of The Dragon Looks Like In Real Life

Since 2022, Emma D'Arcy has been one of the main cast members on "House of the Dragon," a prequel to mega-hit HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones" that almost singlehandedly revived interest in the franchise following the once-beloved show's widely reviled final season. D'Arcy plays Rhaenyra Targaryen, a direct ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen, famously portrayed in "GoT" by Emilia Clarke. And much like their onscreen descendant (as well as fellow "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner, who is radiant even without any on-camera makeup), D'Arcy is absolutely gorgeous in real life — even if the actor doesn't actually look all that much like their Westerosi counterpart. Notably, in addition to their good looks, D'Arcy's stunning transformation since landing their breakout role in "House of the Dragon" has also manifested in considerable career advancement.

The photo above was taken in September 2026, when the British actor attended the world premiere of the offbeat Tom Cruise vehicle "Digger" — in which they have a starring role — in their native London. But considering just how much D'Arcy disappears into the role of Rhaenyra, thanks to "House of the Dragon's" talented makeup department and, perhaps more notably, House Targaryen's signature, platinum-blond hair, we wouldn't be surprised if some fans didn't even recognize them at first.

Still, while we seriously doubt Rhaenyra could pull off a short, brunette, slicked-back look, D'Arcy definitely can. The "Digger" premiere notably came amid a bit of a lull as far as "House of the Dragon" is concerned. The HBO series' third season ended in August 2026, shortly before the Cruise-led film's fall debut. Its fourth and final season is due out in 2028, with production starting in early 2027. Anxious fans can rest assured that D'Arcy will embody the character again soon enough.

Regarding the real-life actor — or, rather, actors — behind Rhaenyra Targaryen, we would be remiss not to mention Milly Alcock, who played a younger version of Emma D'Arcy's character throughout the first half of "House of the Dragon" Season 1 in 2022. Alcock, who you may also recognize from Netflix's "Sirens," later reprised her role for a couple of guest appearances during the show's second season in 2024. Since Alcock's star-making turn on the popular "Game of Thrones" prequel series, many more people beyond just that show's core audience have got to see what she actually looks like too. After all, Alcock quickly went on to become one of the faces of a major superhero franchise when she took on the role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in the rebooted DC Universe.

But while D'Arcy's star is undeniably on the rise as well, the sort of notoriety her younger "House of the Dragon" counterpart is experiencing at the moment doesn't seem to be their style — at least, not yet. We mentioned earlier how D'Arcy is borderline unrecognizable without their long, platinum blonde Targaryen wig, and it seems like the actor prefers it that way. "That wig is a blessing. People don't recognize me, so my day-to-day is broadly unchanged, which I feel very grateful for," D'Arcy explained to The Hollywood Reporter in July 2023. They similarly described the wig as a "piece of armor that protects me" during a chat with The Standard in May 2024. That being said, as of 2026, rumors are swirling that D'Arcy could end up joining the cast of Marvel's rebooted "X-Men" franchise. So, they may end up having even more in common with Alcock before long.
