Out With The Old: Let A Divorce Be The Most Empowering Reason To Overhaul Your Style

There are plenty of different reasons to get a makeover, but getting a divorce may be the most empowering. After all, we've seen several high-profile celebs do so after their own super-public splits, as evidenced by these five celebs who have had an epic post-divorce glow-up. But why even consider having a complete overhaul of your appearance in the first place? Not only is getting a makeover after divorce psychologically helpful, but it can also serve as a crucial first step in your journey of healing and moving on to your next chapter.

When going through the process of turning over a new leaf, you understandably might yearn to see someone new, refreshed, and different in the mirror — someone more prepared to take on the world. And there are many ways to achieve this, from booking that well-deserved facial to trying out new styles at the nearest clothing store. And while undergoing a makeover might aid in your chances of finding someone new (and we do have some tips for getting back into dating after a divorce), the priority should be on making yourself feel good.

A physical makeover isn't the only option post-divorce

Although a physical makeover can go a long way in helping you find yourself post-divorce, it's not the only way. In fact, some women have found that overhauling their home decor is also a surefire method for reasserting their confidence and autonomy. This trend took off in tandem with the pink Barbiecore trend in 2025, where women's ability to make their own choices over the littlest things, such as selecting the color of their wallpaper, is seen as a sign of restored agency post-divorce.

"It's not that I was explicitly forbidden from buying pink towels," Olivia Howell, co-founder of Fresh Starts Registry, detailed exclusively to Forbes after essentially kickstarting the trend on Threads, "... [but] I realize I compromised my design aesthetic to fit into the vision of what a good bride and a harmonious partner should be." And it seems this interior re-decorating trend resonated with a lot of women who've gone through a divorce, as they proudly detailed their purchases in the comments of Howell's post. However, this doesn't mean you have to redesign your home, especially if you like it. The idea is to do whatever makes you happy after your split, so whether it's going to the hair salon or shopping for a new piece of furniture, go for it.
