Karen Spencer Is Proving There Is Beautiful Life After Royal Divorce

Now that Karen, Countess Spencer, has officially divorced Earl Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, she has been openly sharing glimpses of her new life, proving that this next chapter is even more beautiful and fulfilling since walking away from royalty. Kate Middleton and Prince William's marriage is hanging on by a thread, so perhaps the Princess of Wales should take inspiration from her aunt-in-law. Spencer now lives in a peaceful country home in Northamptonshire, England, designed by contemporary architect Charles Morris and inspired by 19th-century architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. It's a far cry from her previous home, the historic Althorp estate, but it's surrounded by an expansive garden and lush landscapes that are home to her pet sheep, Lucky and Minty; her cats, Phoebe, Ella, and Luna; and several horses.

The Canadian native has shared magnificent views of her property while offering keen updates about the home's history and the renovations she's been spearheading. "Been having so much fun making my house a home," she wrote in a May 2026 Instagram post. She also revealed in another October 2025 post that she was taking the time to learn more about Lutyens' work and the original design of the house before making changes. Showing a peek of the home's exquisite vintage furnishings, she added, "The couch and needlepoint cushions I bought at auction. The couch is early 20th century walnut and is one of the very few things I have to sit on at the moment!"

Now that she no longer tends to the royal affairs of Althorp, Countess Spencer spends quiet mornings and peaceful days on her expansive Northamptonshire property. "My morning routine. Tea, my first 500ml of water and my journal," she shared in August 2026 via Instagram. The serene image shows the unspoiled views from her terrace on the east side of the house, which she says gets the morning sun. "The new house is heaven. It's so thoughtfully designed to fully experience all the natural beauty around it at all the different times of day ... Sitting out here in the morning, all you can hear is the birds. So so peaceful."

The countess also walks the property each day, discovering new and surprising wildlife. "This morning I found a patch of hellebores and some hyacinths that seem to have appeared out of nowhere," she shared in February. Additionally, Spencer cares for a growing family of animals, including a resident hive of bees, baby chickens, and wild hares, along with her beloved pets.

Outside of the home, the longtime philanthropist has continued her work as founder and board chair of Whole Child International, the nonprofit organization she founded in 2004 to support the emotional well-being of vulnerable children. She is also a co-chair of the governing council of Catalyst Now, a global movement of social innovators, and has served on the board of the Centre for Global Development.
