Kate & Pippa Middleton Outfits That Highlight What Sets UK Wedding Fashion Apart

There are not many other sisters more world famous than Kate and Pippa Middleton — whose name rose to worldwide fame after she wore that dress when Kate married Prince William in 2011. While the two siblings are renowned for their notable charity work, they're also known to be tastemakers in the fashion world. From Pippa Middleton outfits that caused a stir to Kate Middleton's most sophisticated monochrome outfits, they truly live and breathe style. However, the duo have also caused waves in wedding fashion by their choice of color scheme when attending royal nuptials.

Donning white for someone's wedding is considered to be the ultimate fashion taboo, but Kate and Pippa Middleton appear to operate by different rules. As seen in the image above, the Princess of Wales is pictured wearing white to Meghan Markle's 2018 wedding (left), while her sister wore a similar shade to Kate's own wedding back in 2011 (right). Although the palace defended Kate by declaring her tailored Alexander McQueen coat-dress to be "primrose yellow," it appears the practice of wearing white (or close to it) may not be so eyebrow-raising in the UK. "Today, wedding guests can wear cream — or white for that matter — as long as the outfit doesn't say 'bride,'" wrote Peggy Post for the New York Times (per Elle).

It could be said that Kate and Pippa Middleton was simply following the royal example set by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The beloved monarch sent the world into a tailspin when she attended the then-Prince Charles' second wedding in 2005. As seen in the image above, the late royal was all smiles, wearing a tailored white coat dress with a matching feathered hat when she watched her son marry Camilla. 

When the queen stepped out in the white number, tongues were wagging over what the monarch was trying to say with the outfit, which is a similar situation as the Middleton sisters. While it was claimed Queen Elizabeth chose white so as to complement Camilla's pale blue wedding dress, others weren't so convinced. X users such as Historic Vids highlighted how the late Queen wore blue to Charles' wedding to Princess Diana, which may suggest her disapproval with her son's second nuptials. Whatever the message may or may not be, it's clear the British royals are leading the charge on why UK wedding fashion is so unique.
