Celebrity MUA Has The Secrets To Making Older Skin Glow

Nothing lasts forever, and that phrase definitely applies to our skin as we get older. Aging brings a whole host of new problems we have to adapt to, especially when learning how to adjust your skincare routine to cater to mature skin. But aside from fine lines and wrinkles, dullness is also a major concern. That is why we took the initiative to speak to celebrity makeup artist Bren Robertson about how older women can get their glow back and achieve the ideal canvas for seamless makeup.

And according to Robertson, laying the groundwork for glowing skin starts with your evening skincare routine. "A rich night cream and a Vitamin C serum will help boost dull skin while you sleep, when your skin is most actively repairing," Robertson shared with us. Robertson then added that primers should also be a consideration if they're not already a part of your routine, especially primers specifically formulated to "boost radiance while still smoothing texture." 

You may be surprised to learn that just because you're targeting dullness, doesn't mean you should be scouring store shelves for glowy foundations. In fact, Robertson advises the opposite. "Avoid any foundations that are too 'radiant' or products with too much shimmer as they will emphasize texture and lines," he says. Instead, you should go for foundations with a satin, velvety finish that will leave a healthy pallor on your skin, which is advice in line with what older women should look for in an undereye concealer.

But Robertson goes deeper into the skincare aspect of taking care of mature skin. The makeup expert notes that the types of moisturizers that you would avoid in your youth are actually the ones that you need for aging skin. Robertson lauds the "extra moisture" provided by rich, thick creams, especially prior to makeup application. "Rich creams that would make a 20 year old break out are absorbed more easily, plump up the skin around fine lines and help makeup apply smoothly and last longer."
