Back when Jada Pinkett Smith was still just Jada Pinkett, she made her acting debut in roles even seasoned actors would kill for. After only a handful of TV guest starring spots, she landed a recurring role on the "The Cosby Show" spin-off "A Different World" and a major part in the classic crime drama "Menace II Society" on the big screen. Following a 25-year career that included franchises from "The Matrix" to "Madagascar," she became best known as the host of "Red Table Talk," a no-holds-barred talk show that became the cornerstone of Facebook Watch's streaming programming.

More recently, however, she's possibly become even better known for her complicated personal life. After the 2020 reveal of what was rumored to be an extramarital affair in 2016, Pinkett Smith announced that she and her husband since 1997, rapper and actor Will Smith, had been secretly separated for several years. She's made it clear, however, that she doesn't need anyone to defend her, and that's why Jada Pinkett Smith is today's quote of the day.

"A queen is her own savior," Jada Pinkett Smith wrote in the final paragraphs of "Worthy," her inspiring 2023 memoir about mental health. "Her magic is quiet, potent and mysterious." This quote appears in a chapter titled "Putting the Crown on the Queen of My Heart," which chronicles Pinkett Smith's affinity for magic and the revelation of her queenhood during a particularly eventful ayahuasca ceremony.

Pinkett Smith loved the line so much that she plucked it from the text for promotional material, including the book's back cover and a wallpaper image that she made exclusively available to fans who pre-ordered "Worthy" and showed it off on Instagram in 2023. "I chose this line from 'Worthy' to appear on the back of the book because they are words of affirmation for women who've survived storms through the chaos of herself to retrieve her crown," she explained. We may think of queens more as protectees than protectors, but Pinkett Smith's poetic proclamation actually makes a lot of sense.

A queen is the most powerful woman in her realm, so why would she need anyone else to save her? Her power, or "magic," doesn't need to be loud to be heard or explained to be understood; it's strong enough to be simply felt. As Jada Pinkett Smith says, however, a queen must create her own realm, i.e. "retrieve her crown." That means facing her problems head-on, especially those within herself, so she can rise up to claim her throne.

Pinkett Smith definitely knows a thing or two about fighting personal demons. In addition to her relationship struggles, she's among the celebs who have been open about their battle with sex addiction as well as PTSD and depression so crushing that she considered ending it all. She came out the other side more powerful than ever, though, proving that there's no mountain in your queendom that you can't climb. She's even reportedly reconciled with the artist formerly known as the Fresh Prince.
